What to do next -too many trucks

Well got yelled at this weekend by the Wife for having too many trucks

I have a 82 fleet side long bed 86k original mile great truck rust free
but have always wanted a short bed

so it all started out very innocently with a craigs list add for a 83 short wide
rust free no engine looked at it bought it brought home "another project "

so it was time to look for the missing pieces to make this truck whole so
for $500 I found a rusty 83 that ran great and had cold air

now I had everthing I needed to get my short wide on the road wth a couple weekends of heavy wrenching ...but it was such a good running truck that it seemed a shame to put her out to parts so yesterday on craigs list
found this $500 more give me a rusty roofed 88 suburban with cold air and a 350 /700 r4 combo bucket seat console all in very good shape

so I'll have my hands full for a few weeks till I make something go away
MArk

Re: What to do next -too many trucks

well the good news is that you prolly can part out the burb for way more than you bought it for .. The seats wont fit in your pickup without some mods tho.. then again you can use the rust free parts to make the rusty orange one look alot better good luck keep us updated

I bet she has more money in clothes than you do in trucks... try yelling back at her to get rid of some shoes

Or maybe you shouldn't, you might end up living in the Burb

Re: What to do next -too many trucks

I think you should part the burb, screw the shortie together, and drive the 82 up to Michigan and drop it at my place. Once you sign off the title then you'll have one less truck to bother the wife.

Of course, then I'll have 5 on a limit of 4, so I'll have to scrap one of mine....

Yeah I wouldn't feel bad about parting out that burb. That rust is serious enough to justify it.

Talking Re: What to do next -too many trucks

All good thoughts -especially about the shoes

this weekend will be a THRASH to get the burb apart
lots of good parts going to the black short bed and orange long
bed . I'll probably sell the long bed as a work/weekender to get more cash
to throw at the short bed
want to get the burb running right before I pull the motor though
it starts easily but dies if you don't keep on the throttle
looked for vacuum leaks didn't find any - egr looks good and is not frozen
anybody out there got any more good ideas
I like to use this in 350 in the 82 if possible
Mark

Re: What to do next -too many trucks

Have you replaced the fuel filter or given the injectors a cleaning?

Im thinking along the same lines as you. Part the Burb and sell it for scrap, get the long bed in good enough shape for a scrap hauler/workhorse and sell it to fund the short bed project.

yeah that makes a little bit of a difference. looks like someone held a garden hose on it for 10 or so years after sanding it to bare metal. now i dodnt feel so bad about it going to the bone yard.

interestingly enough you would b hard pressed to find any burb of that era down in our area that didn't have the same spots rusted bad
a lot of these get pulled to the scrap yard for that reason

Re: What to do next -too many trucks

I have a buddy that lives in WV and he’s doing a rust restore on a 70s Karman Ghia, for the amount of money he’s spent fixing rust he could’ve had one flown in from AZ or CA. Not to mention the time, I’ll pass. Think God I live in a rust free state.

Re: What to do next -too many trucks

O.k
so couple weekends work .in between pouring rain

Rusty

is looking better he now has the front clip doors and patched rockers from
the suburban

that now that it's been attacked by my air tools looks like this

Got a big surprise this weekend when pulling the interior out of rusty to clean it up. The seat was covered with a blanket style seat cover and based on the overall dirt level of the truck and cover I figured the seat was a gonner.
Well pulled the seat out cut the cover off a found an almost new looking
but filthy seat. I took it apart sprayed it with a citrus cleaner and got a great looking seat for zero dollars . Here a pic with the burbs carpet and door
panels being put in

looking much better

inside and out

Well, it looks like you have no use for that console. I might would like to take it off your hands, if it is in good shape. It looks like it has something bolted to the front though, after I relooked at it.
