Thinner door seal material??? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Finally got around to my doors. They always required a much-too-hard slam to close fully, and that pressure AFTER they were closed made locking/unlocking with the key impossible.
Checked the door hinge pins and they are good and solid, no play up and down.
Removed the rubber bumpers- no change.
Removed the threshold plate, no change.
Removed the weather stripping from around the cab where the door closes- it now opens and closes normally.

Anyone got a decent source for much-thinner rolls of door seal material [with pics and measurements] ?

I have heard the S-10 door seals are much easier to install and much thinner. Not sure of the year...but I am sure someone will let us know.

I ended up getting a set of seals off a 91 Dakota. went on like a charm. had to cut off about 3" and done. $2.40 from a junkyard.

I installed the GMCPaul's door kit with the push on seals. Went in easy but had to adjust the door latch plate out slightly so it wouldn't be so hard to close. I just loosened the bolt and tapped it out some. With the windows closed it takes just slightly more effort to close. With them open, it shuts normally.

since you've already got the seals on try heating them up with a hair dryer or very carefully with a heat gun to make them compress a bit

I have installed door weather seals on other cars and they are always a little tight, give it some time and they will compress. When I purchased my truck the previous owner installed new weather strip and it took about 3 months for them to compress and then the doors closed great.
