I made a set of OEM-style billet dash knobs - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

One of my machines was running a big part with a long cycle time today, and I jumped on the other CNC lathe and made a set of billet dash knobs. I made them to the exact specs knobs to the exact specs of a factory knob. I put a 6-32 set screw in them to hold them on. I put them on in my '69 to see how they look, and I am undecided on the look. I have made so much billet junk over the years that I kinda burnt out on it. I made the door lock and air cleaner nut a while back. I have some automatic column shifter knobs and blinker/tilt knobs laying around somewhere as well. Maybe if I build something with a more custom feel I'll deck everything out in billet!

Here's a few more pics. I painted the outside of one of the extras black and it look like a factory knob with a polished center. I'm going to make lighter plug to tomorrow to match the others.

Could you make a polished plate to cover across the bottom center of the dash from the left of the ignition to the right of the cig lighter?. I mean a plate to cover it all with the openings cut out for the heater and the 2 circles? Or do you only work with lathes? I'm trying to find somebody who can make it.

If 67_C30 can't or is to busy I can let me know.The knobs look great I have been thinking about doing that for a while now but I want to get my dash built first.

How much do you think the plate would run?. I would want it really thin in mirror finish. I'm guessing it's about 13"+/- x 2.5"+/- with a rectangle and two circles cut out.

Man those look good. In the pics it almost looks like you painted the grooves black, which I think would look really good too.

I did paint the grooves black on them. They looked a little plain without it.

I do mill work as well, but if Mekdad can do it for you, that's fine with me. I have to slip in this kind of work in when I can, so I'd hate to commit to something because it may take me a while to do it. I may be able to make up some more knobs, but I'm not sure how many.

I replaced mine with billet knobs as well and if I remember correctly the knob will unscrew from the body of the cig liter

and the stud on mine was 1/4-20.

Was it a factory or aftermarket lighter. I have one here that is the factory push button lighter, and I don't think it comes apart.
