Re: i need help asap! help me!

In an auto tranny, reverse is the first to go (break). Reverse uses more pressure than the other gears.
Most likely your tranny needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Let's just say that "I" may have caused the problems with the transmission... but hey... I was only 16 at the time.
I went through 4 transmissions in 1 year.

Re: i need help asap! help me!

regular ATF fluid. I would recommend putting something for the higher mileage transmissions, but that's just me.

By the way, if you decide to pull the pan, make sure you go ahead and change the filter and gasket.

And make sure you get the old 0 -ring gasket out of the hole for the tranny filter before putting the new one in, or it won't seat right and you will have other problems. Did you check the fluid levels? Be sure and do that in neutral with the EMERGENCY BRAKE ON and the truck running and WITH THE WHEELS CHOCKED to make sure you need it before adding it.
Shawn

And BTW, please quit using ASAP in the title of so many of your posts. If you have a true emergency that is one thing, but to use it repeatedly.... well you know the story of the boy who cried wolf... Just a friendly word of advice.

Re: i need help asap! help me!

no need to check the fluid in neutral, park is fine
2 years on tranny fluid is not bad. Probably not even needed to chainge, but it probably wouldn't hurt.
Running it that low WILL damage it
Any dextron 2 or 3 will be fine in your tranny.

Re: i need help asap! help me!

Yeah, What's the text book process for this - 1. Warm tranny, 2. On level ground run it through the gearz with foot on brake. 3. Put back in park and check fluid. 4. Add if needed (Do Not Overfill).

Re: i need help asap! help me!

yep, stick with that
I would get it on the stick before driving it again though.
If you get it just below the add mark, then drive it around the block, then you can check it and top it off.

Re: i need help asap! help me!

Loss of reverse could definitely be caused by low fluid. Let us know if that solves the problem.
Hopefully if it was low, you haven't burned up the transmission.

Re: i need help asap! help me!

nope, linkages are left alone.
Depending on what you have for tools, and how your mount is, sometimes you'll have to remove the bolts from the crossmember to tranny mount, and raise the trans just a bit to get the rear most bolts.
