Motor mount question
Hi All, I'm new to the forum and rebuilding these great (67-72) trucks. I've learned a lot of info from the forum. Best resource I've found!
My question, I bought a bunch of chevy truck parts. One wrecked truck and another 71 frame and a couple of beds. No motor or tranny in any of them. I have stripped and sandblasted the 71 frame. It's now painted and I've basically got the frontend rebuilt. What I cannot figure out is the motor mounts. I have two sets. One is cracked and probably no good. They line up with the front set of holes. The other set is in great shape (cleaned and painted) and they line up with the back set of holes. I am planning on running a sb. Will the set that goes in the back work with a sb or they for 6 banger? Any help appreciated. I'll try to attach a pic. Never did this before. Danny |

The back set of holes are for a 6 cylinder. But you can put a small block there. That is where I have mine. And it worked fine.

6 cyl brackets are taller longer than SBC ones, i canmt tell which you have in pic, its hard to tell but whichever are shorter are the SBC ones and whichever are longer are the 250/292 ones 292 have an exception though, the pass side bracket on 292 are in forward holes same as V-8 uses and is not same bracket as any other engine size, i dont have digicam to show you difference but i have a couple of 292 pass side brackets here, and driver side one for both 6 cyl engines are same one and both use rear holes unlike SBC |

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm still not sure which mount is in the pic above. Any measurements I can take or a different pic that would help in IDing this mount?

sorry, i don't know the differences, but that's where a 350 bolts up. i can measure mine if you need me to. Randy can be of more help though.

Those exhaust holes through the crossmember look a lot like the ECE Rodstoration.
Must be planning on droping that Truck. From what I have gathered the front mounting holes (forward)are for the small block and the rear are for the inline 6 but you can mount a sb in the 6 cyl position. Quite a few members have done this(v8 in the 6 position) with good results. The problems that they encounter are clearance for the distributor and distance to the fan shroud (depending on the Water pump) A basic rule as to factory location is v/8 forward 6 to the rear. As to your question about the engine mounts.Whether they are for a six or eight I will leave it to the experts as all of mine are V/8's. I hope this helps As alway's feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this line of thought.

all correct cept for that 292 is oddball and pass side is forward and driver side is rearward and pass side 292 uses special tree bracket

You have the 6 /250 stands shown in the pics. as already posted, your smallblock will mount on them, but will sit roughly 3 1/2" back from the V8 (factory)position. My longhorn is set up this way to slide a little weight rearward. I run an HEI dist, but clearance is pretty tight......I opted to drill the hole in the stand to 5/8"(the ones for the motor mount bolts), to give a little room to "cheat" a fraction of an inch. the holes in my trans crossmember are also slotted. for correct lenght on the pump/shroud, I run a 73 up long pump,pulleys, brackets, steering pump. Thanks all for the info. Where else could you go and get such good feedback?!!!! I've already hit the local junk yard and found a good set of v-8 motor mount brackets. Anybody need the other one I have for the 6?
