Which lug nuts for these wheels?
I just scored these on CL:
http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/757665101.html (the mags, not the rallyish type wheel) The guy just dropped them off and the tires have tons of tread, but they're a little taller than I'd like. I don't know for sure yet, but I'm thinking that these have to be 8" wheels due to the tire width. The wheels are in pretty good shape, but one has a mark where something rubbed thru the clearcoat. Not exactly my idea of "LIKE NEW", but for the money...... The lug holes in the wheels are pretty big compared to my studs. The lug nuts that came with the wheels just slide over my studs and I'm assuming they are metric anyway. The holes are coved out for an acorn type nut. Can I just use my stock lug nuts or do I need to do something special here? It's no fun having wheels come off at 60MPH, don't ask me how I know....

Even more "issues"..... The upper control arms hit the rims because of the offset. If I had drop spindles, I'd be clear but I have to live with drums for a while longer. Can I "safely" use spacer/adapters to give clearance? I've never been here before...help I've fallen and I can't get up..

If you have to use adapters, in my opinion, you have the wrong wheels.

Sorry about that, he deleted it already. They're like this:
http://www.lakeshorewheelandtire.com...thumb_5015.jpg They came with a beautiful set of factory Goodyear Wrangler 265-75R-16 tires that still have the color stripes running around them. They even still smell like new tires. I got the whole setup for $150. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them.

I just need some backspacing to keep the rim from hitting the upper control arm. Drop spindles would fix it too.

Those are the factory wheels off of a late 80's / early 90's chevy truck which had 14mm studs from the factory... if you are going to use them you will want to use an aftermarket chrome acorn lug nut (not because they are chrome but because they are big) or an "ET" style lug nut.
Good luck though, they have more back spacing than our trucks need. |

they make a conversion lugnut for those to work on older trucks, looks just like the stock ones but fit a smaller stud

If you must space them out, I would use a BILLET SPACER/ADAPTER, not the cheap spacers and longer studs. Not sure what you need as far as space, but ??
My buddy scored a set of 20's off a newer Mustang, and ran them on his '67 Impala....again he used a Billet Spacer/Adapter to set the offset and, in this case, adapt the wheel. Looks sweet, you can see the Billet unit in this pic: - -

Thanks for the replies everyone. Now that the sun is out, I can see that the problem up front is not so much the upper control arm. It's more the fact that the factory hub is a little larger than the center hole in the rim. I'm thinking a 1" billet adapter will be all that I need to make these work up front. I guess I should get a set for the rear too. Seems easier than finding longer studs and possibly having to use different lugnuts on the back.

Update:
It turns out that the problem is that our trucks (basically '46-'70) need a wheel that has a center bore of about 4". Newer trucks use a smaller center bore and larger 14mm studs. There are billet adapters available that have 14mm studs, but they only have a 3" center bore. There are also billet adapters available that have a large center bore, but they only come with 7/16" studs or 12mm studs. It's absolutely amazing...... So my choices are to buy the billet adapter with smaller studs and try to find some kind of funky lugnut to keep the wheel on, or I can buy the adapter that has the 14mm studs and small centerbore and have them machined somewhere. Or, I guess I could get the ones with 12mm studs and press them out, drill bigger holes and press in 14mm studs. The guy I talked to on the phone yesterday seems to think that it's too small of a market to make the correct part we would need, and that tooling costs would be too high. I mean really, all they need to do is drill bigger stud holes in the adapter with the larger center bore and press in some 14mm studs. I have searched the internet high and low and it seems that this is just how it is. Why does everything have to be such a PITA????? All I wanted to do was put these modern wheels on my old truck to save a few bucks.
