67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

Well i'm looking at gathering up a 67 c10 lwb fleet camper special, wood bed, that came with a 327 and a posi rear end *or so it says on the glove box sticker*. Looks like its still the origonal. Anyone know if its worth getting even for the rear end?? I've read about the gov lock posi's, that they are just junk.

Would this be a gov lock if its factory??

What gears should i expect??

Can i swap it over to my 69 lwb??

Should say its a 12 bolt 6 lug on coils. Also forgot my camera.

ttt and all its wisdom.

The gov lock didn't come out until later. All of the limited slips I've seen in our trucks are Eaton-style clutch-type. Rearends should swap with no issues.

It was an auto for sure.. Think a powerguild but didn't think to look.

3.07 gears unless opted otherwise (on the SPID) or swapped out at a later date.
Perfect for your torque monster 455... cruisin @ 2500-ish RPMs on the freeway too.

Re: 67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

That sounds like a plan to me. But the 3.07 will put at a loss at the stop light with a civic but get better mpg right?? i have 3.73 right now i think.

Gonna go get it tomorow. Also has a speed warning dash, buddy buckets, ac cab, spot light, and orgional steering wheel..

I'll get a pic of the SPID tomorow.

Re: 67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

the 3.07 will drop a little off the line performance, but in reality, with the low end torque and street tires, there won't be much loss noticed, esp if you have a one wheel drive right now. If you have a one wheel wonder, you'll be getting off the line quicker with the 2 wheel drive 3.07. It's all about getting it to the ground.
And yeah, esp with the low end motor, you should get better MPG with the 3.07 on the freeway, not to mention, the revs/noise will be low enough that you can think.

Re: 67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

Will the guts from the posi swap right over??

My current one wheeler had all the bearing and seals replaced. I would hate to spend more on this unit if i can just swap it over.

This would require re-setting up the gears, new crush sleeve, etc--I'd advise against it. It would be easier to fix what ever the posi needs (brakes, outer wheel bearings, outer wheel bearing seals, etc.).

Re: 67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

Well finally got it. Man i need my own trailer. Waiting on people sucks.

Its good and straight. But no posi even though the SPID shows it and has all the other stuff listed. Must a been traded out years ago.

18.75ish turns of the axel per 10 turns of the wheel.

"11:41 GM 5 -67 1" Is on the ring gear.

3.73?? Guess 41 / 11 = 3.727272

Bummer on that. But the seats are in great shape and the dash is perfect.

Re: 67 stock posi rear end, is it a gov posi

just because is doesn't act like a posi doesn't mean it isn't.Some on here have found that if the special additive is not put in the differential at lube change the posi will not work.I don't have a clue to the threads I have read this on but I have seen it multiple times.

lol. no kidding.

Maybe i can get enough in scrap for it to get some funds for a posi unit. Or at least make a start toward one.

Anyone need a good boat anchor???

It's just too bad that it has title issues...and that you are so far away.
I have been looking for quite some time for a 67-68. I have one mocking me every day when I go to work. It is sitting the the back parking lot, but the guy who owns it is one of those "I'm going to restore it someday" kind of guys.
