Just wondering who all has AC and how did you do it... need some good pointers guys.. what parts you used where you mounted everything. Thanks a lot in advance.

I am running the vintage air sure fit for our trucks. works great.

I bought a serpentine system, condensor and (mark iv) evaporator at different swap meets during the past 1.5 years. I then bought a $100 vintage air kit with a dryer and tubing that I'll have to cut to fit and get crimped (part of the purchase price at the local rod shop).

I haven't gotten it all hooked up yet, but really, how hot can it get in Dallas in the summer

I got the serpentine drive from an 88-98 truck for free. Came with a brand new alternator and compressor even! Now I need the same Vintage Air kit as Kevin and I will be set!

Yep vintage air for me too, havn't got to try it out yet though. not quite ready for it. And using a serp belt setup off a 88-98 chevy pickup

84 chevy van A/C. Replacing the entire factory heater/ducts/switches etc. The 84 box splits at the firewall, and takes up less room than the original hetaer. The duct is 3-4.5 inches square & attaches in sections. The A/C hoses will have to come from an 84 pickup application, and I need a low mount compressor bracket. The remainder will be used from the 84 right down to the harness and switches. I will use a new evap, drier, hoses, and orifice tube. I will also go R134A. The 65 firewall will be gutted to move all the 84 accessories such as Master, Booster, wire harness, column, and of course the Heat/AC box. Jerry

I think the hardest part of it all was molding the vents into the dash.. other than that drill two holes for the water outlets and 3 for mounting the unit. it went pretty smooth on mine anyways

i have an old air setup. installed about 4 months ago. i drive my truck daily.

its gets about 42 degrees when cruising at 65 to 70 mph.

easy install also. took about 4 or 5 hours.

This is the under dash shot. The old air kit was a great fit. The only problem I had was that I bought from a local vendor who said it was a complete a-z kit when it was not. He gave me a complete Old Air kit on the inside but made up the kit for under the hood. I had to contact the vendor and the Old Air company and they took care of the minor differences.

I am working on my A/C today, does any one know how much freon a Vintage Air system holds for one of our trucks?

66Gilbert - all VA systems hold 1.8lbs of 134a refrigerant. You can download this info from the download section of the VA web site -

I went the custom route with my AC system and used a universal Gen II evaporator in my 65. It will blow 38-40 degree air out the vents on a 98 degree day.

Coolair... Is that the van tilt column??

I would stay away from old air. Their under dash unit isnt that good compaired to VA or classic auto air. I'm about to junk my Old air setup for a VA gen iv under dash kit. this is the best way to go hands down.

I seriously need an A/C system though with it being as hot as it is here, just don't have the funds for it right now.
