how many quarts does my tranny take?

I think I put 5 or 6 in mine when I replaced the filter and gasket, can't remember for sure though. I'm sure someone knows for sure.

when you change filter and pan gasket the tranny doesnt drain completely normally 3-5quarts will be required to top off// i normally catch what comes out and count how many quarts came out and start there

I just replaced the pan gasket (and filter) on my TH350 last week. I added four quarts, and it was exactly on the 'full' mark after getting it up to operating temperature (idling in Park on a level slab).

Dang, after reading what I wrote, I need to edit this again. What I did was add 4 quarts, then started the engine and let it warm up a bit while I checked for leaks. Then I drove a couple miles to a car wash and cleaned the truck and the engine -- then drove home and checked the trans fluid. It was on the 'full' mark. Whew, hope I got that right this time!


Edit: I was gonna check how much came out, but it had been sitting (and leaking) for awhile, and I only drained about 1 1/2 quarts.

i was thinking it was in the 4 quarts area.
I say start with 3... it is WAY easier to add, than it is to drain.

Also (not knowing how much you know on the subject) to dump a quart or two in there, then fire up the truck, run it through the gears slowly pausing at each selection, and then pour in the 3rd one. Go thorugh the gears again and check the level on the stick. Add accordingly. With the engine and tranny cold, you don't want to bring it to the full line... rather just up past the add line.
Then go around the block a few times, and then check it again... after going through all the gears, pausing in each selection... then you can bring it to the full position.

4 in the pan. 2 in the converter...you won't have to worry about those two though if you are just dropping the pan
