posi's dont come with gear ratios you need to get gear sets for a gear ratio

Depends on what you are doing with it. If you want a posi...then Eaton or auburn. 4 wheelin, Air locker. Burnouts,, Detroit Locker, or youll toast a posi unit.

I put a eaton posi in my 72 GMC and I liked it, so I got another one for my 68. You'll need to decided what gears so you can get the right posi though. I think 3.73 and up is a series 4, and below that is series 3.
In my jeep, I had a eaton true trac in the front diff and it was OK. I had a ARB in the rear and it worked well as long as the compressore and air lines were in good working order. |

it's yours if you want to swing by. you gotta take it with the rear-end housing (has hanger/leaf mounts hacked off).
if you want the 5-lug axles that came with it, you'll need to kick me $50. gimme a holler. there are pics of this rear end floating around somewhere. it has 3.43 gearing IIRC. i forgot - let me find the post with pics.

everything should be in there with all shims, etc, but i would recommend pulling it apart and rebuilding it just because it has a decent # of miles on it. it's a G80 govlock unit 3.40 gear ratio, from what i could gather.

I`ve had good luck with the Gov-Loc in my`91 Suburban SF 14-bolt with 35" mud tires.So, far it`s kept me from getting out to lock the hibs.They aren`t for extreme use.But,work for the way the factory intended.
My advise would be to keep an eye out for a complete factory posi rear you can bolt right in. With buying a posi unit to install,I see you understand that it has to be from the right series carrier assembly since they transition break falls in at 3.73.But,a 3.73 could be had in either series,I believe.So,you gotta what that.Buying a whole rear is the way to go,IMO.The labor you`ll save will be equal to the cost of the rear.

I have an Eaton and an Auburn carrier that looks just like those. I agree with Special K, the Gov Locks are fine for stock or mild applications, but will not withstand exteme useage. With that being said, there is a lot of stress on the rear end parts, and even the best stuff can fail in seemingly "easy" situations. I ran in the mid 11's pulling 1.59 - 1.61 60ft times forever (over 80passes) with stock "weak" axles in my '82 Z28 praying each time that I wouldn't pop one. I finally got up the money and upgraded to some nice "strong" Strange axles, made 6 passes and broke the one on the passenger side on the launch. Go figure, huh?
