What to do with my rusty Cab?

Just Pulled my GMC out from behind my house after 18 months of it being parked and found that Rust has eaten a whole in the roof of the Cab.Not being a welder, and not a fan of the Bondo... what to do with my ol' girl?...Appreciate you guys advice/help.

How's the rest of the cab? If similar to the pictures, you may want to think about getting another cab. Rust repair can get pretty expensive.

unless the rest of ur cab is perfect of it has some real sentimental meaning to u i just say scrap and find a new cab cause thats some real oddball rust in a bad area so id start lookin for a new cab

There are three layers of metal in that area, the outer roof panel, the inner roof panel and the drip rail material. Unless you adept at using a plasma cutter and then doing some hammer-welding, a replacment cab is a real desire.

I'm thankful mine doesn't have any rust like that. The firewall is another topic, but not un-repairable.

well if you are looking into just making it look better and you dont want to get a whole new cab . and welding isnt your forte.

The rust may be too deep for this but you could dig out the rust fill it with cats hair and pour on the resin. us body filler to touch up its not the right way to do it but it will pass for fixed for a good 10 more years.

A donor cab would be best otherwise, a welding you must go. A little patience, a sheet of 18 gauge, and a nice Hobart 250ci Plasma cutter, and a Hobart 140MIG. is all you need. I was amazed at myself when I first started welding. It's nerve racking for the first hour but, the most fun and rewarding experience you'll have when restoring. If that's the worst of the cab...go for it. Don't crush her....restore her. The guys on this board gave me the confidence and inspiration I needed to tackle welding.

doubt it will last that long..AND THATS HACKIN.......Id say to evaluate the cab and go from there...But.......Why spend the time and money to do it WRONG........Replace it will good metal or dont even bother

being in LA, you could probably get a whole nother truck with hardly any rust at all pretty cheap. or maybe memory lane auto dismantler could hook you up with a new cab for nut much money.

The Cab is in good shape, that is the only problem spot, although it is a bit of a problem, which is why I'm leaning towards repairing it & Not trying to replace the whole Cab.After being Parked in my Yard for 18months I finally got wifey off my back about the truck, If I start swapping the cab right now I am not sure how that goes over!

Here is pictures of the other part of teh cab, the drivers side is beginin to get a few spots...so i am tryin to take care of it sooner.
