How are you cleaning parts?

How are you guys cleaning the really grimey parts like suspension? I want to clean and paint my front crossmember and arms while it's apart. I don't have a sand blaster. Wire wheel?

ive been using the foaming gunk parts cleaner and a pressure washer.

putty knife, wire wheel, brake cleaner or Easy Off oven cleaner (yellow can) always worked for me.......

Yeah,regular easy off or go to a detail shop and talk them out of some of their degreaser some kind of acid

scraper first, then oven cleaner, then power washer.
If you don't have a power washer, you can go to the coin op car wash... just clean up after yourself.

"Grease Eater" works well to get the oily grease off the parts. Spray it on wait a while and hose or pressure wash it off. Some guys here are using it in their hot tanks to clean engine parts.
Costco usually has a good deal on it. It also works great to clean grease spots off garage floors and driveways and is biodegradable.

I just did my whole front suspension. I used a pressure washer with degreaser. Then i used brake cleaner, rag, putty knife, and a wire brush. If i would do it again, i know for the amount i spent in cleaning chemicals and rags, i could have had my stuff blasted locally. I know a lot of us are on a budget, but it's worth looking into.

The oven cleaner is the trick as said before just scrape off the big chuncks first and then let sit out in the weather to remove all the oil residue off the metal. I sent my frame out to the blaster once the thing was cleaned they wouldn't take it with grease on it.

That's weird, i talked to a guy about soda blasting, he told me i could bring it as is no pre cleaning required.

8 to 10 cans of 99 cent store oven degreaser, and a pressure washer. Takes a few applications but it works. May need a scraper in between applications.

or 3 to 4 cans of oven cleaner...

that NEVER happens, i own two self serve carwashes, and the crap i gotta clean up would make a sailor gag. it's gotten worse since the economy has gone to pot, people don't want to drive to landfill or anywhere else, so it's easiest to go trash the local carwash

i thought i had just about seen it all, until the other day i see a lady throw some quarters in the fragrance machine and commence to hose herself down with it! i didn't even want to go over and take a look at how bad she was. wow. sorry for the hijack.

if i am gonna strip to metal to paint muratic acid but I DONT RECOMMEND it to others then i will hit it with phosphate of some kind..if i am dealing with rust i use this stuff. http://www.blulightning.com/

Thanks for all the tips. I've used degreaser and a pressure washer but it didn't seem to do enough for me. Maybe I'm impatient. I'll try the oven cleaner.
