Kansas State Law??

hey guys i am gettin my truck worked on in Lawence KS some time this comin up week. the guy that does all my body work is gonna replace my lower ball joints and idle arms on my 79, and i was gonna have him take the bed off and do the body work on it, then drive it to lawence to get it aligned. but can i drive it without a bed? i will mount my tail lights on the frame somewhere so they will still be working. any body know? id like to know if its illigal before i do it and get a hell of a ticket!

thanks

Do the street rods have fenders there? Like 29-32s? If no then you probably wont be hassled.. One state north and you dont have a problem with driving missing body parts..

Yes you can drive it that way, done it more than once. As a matter of fact, drove the 91 like that, just few months ago and even in front of a HiPo. The real issue is that you may pick up a rock and smack the back of your cab and bust the rear window.

Even if you do get a ticket from the Lawrence Snob cops, just smile and thank them for noticing you. The state boys won't bother you, but those city guys may be special on a Saturday night.

Re: Kansas State Law??

while you have the bed off, clean and paint up the frame for a cleaner look.

Re: Kansas State Law??

for laughs i would put a piece of 2X4 and c clamp it to the frame rails while driving it and hang some rubber floor mats so it acs as wheel shields for water this way it would make it more legal like also make sure you have the rear plate somehow mounted and lit up

Re: Kansas State Law??

Rigging up a set of mudflap as said above will keep the fuzz off your back in the rain. I got behind a chassis-cab truck in the rain once that had no mud flaps. Those 4 tires spray water back like you wouldn't believe.

Also, having some kind of weight back there is good because the rear end will tend to bounce around a little over bumps with no weight on it.

Re: Kansas State Law??

this is true, im sure i can rig something up, a couple of floor mats, and a roll of duct tape should do the trick

Be sure to get a set that says "Back Off" and has a picture of Yosemite Sam on them.
