I have a nice 3 piece 72 only BBC alternator bracket set that I would like to trade for a set of NOS 71-72 sport mirrors or part trade for an AM/FM radio or blue houndstooth bucket seat covers. Any interest? Thanks.

The support rod bolts to a tab on the back of the upper bracket and the other end attaches to the block at the exhaust manifold. These were only made for 1 year (72). The rod lends support and stability to the alternator. There were problems with the 2 piece design breaking on the previous years. These will work with any short water pump big block engine. I will try to post a pic later of it installed.

Please don't go thru that trouble as a have nothing to trade for it! I was just wondering so if I find another 72 only I would know if it will work.

Here are some pics showing how they mount. The upper bracket and the rod are 72 only. The lower bracket is the same for all 68-72 big block short water pump. The support rod actually attaches to the head above the exhaust manifold and clears it, so it looks to me like they would clear headers as well.

I will measure it when I get home tonite...will probably be late. I am interested in the heat shield as well....do you have the heat riser tube? thanks.

It measures exactly 10 13/16" from center to center on the mounting holes (just over 10 3/4") Here is a pic of it. It is a straight rod, but the tabs are offset at the ends. PM sent.
