WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I'm thinking about Powder Coated Glove Box Doors. For Starters I have Black or Red Powder. I could get other colors. What about matching Ash Trays or other small parts? What Would You Pay?

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
Just an observation:
If the dashes are not powdercoated and the buyer wanted to go with the original color scheme the powdercoating wouldn't match the rest of the dash or interior at all. Now if they were going for a custom/ two-tone look I could see the black selling with a matching ashtray, but I'm not sure. With that said I would figure the glove box door about 10.00, ashtrays about 5.00, pwdercoating about 75.00 for the door and 45.00 for the ashtray, little profit, I would say you could probably sell them for about 100.00 for a glovebox door and 65-70.00 for the ashtray door. Or do a set for 150.00 plus shipping. i think that would be your best bet. As always, this is just my opinion. Shawn

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I got a core support, both fenderwells and a couple of small parts power coated for 125 bucks. I wouldnt give more than 25 bucks for a powder coated glove box door and less for an ash tray.
Maybe powder coating is cheaper here in the NW than in Texas? |

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I don't know If it is cheaper or not. I recently had an after market aluminum air cleaner top and bottom powdercoated for 80.00. I thought that was reasonable enough. At 25.00 for a Powdercoated glovebox door your not leaving much room for profit. Doors sell on here for 10 bucks, then 15.00 for powdercoating (materials, electricity involved in heating, labor, etc) doesn't leave much in the area of profit. But that is why we are a bunch of cheapskates. Because we understand how to do things, for the most part have the ability to do them, but we usually don't have the correct equipment or time to do them. But we aren't like most consumers that don't think they can do anything themselves and would just rather pay someone else to do it for them.

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
CG, you got a great deal on your powder coating.
Here in South Florida, most things, esp. custom work, tends to be a bit higher in price than most places. I invested in some equipment and supplies to do my own stuff and just thought about how many pieces on our trucks can be Powder Coated. Unlike the new trucks (so much plastic), all of the small stuff in mine will be done one day (BTW, brackets come out great). Just trying to get a high and low price range and find an average to be able to say "would someone be interested in having some P/C done" Shawn, your right. a guy wants to make a little profit after supplies, labor, electric, etc. but also wants to keep it fair and keep a good rep. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I really didnt take into account the cost of the door. I was assuming everyone had one. I was thinking more along the lines of just getting one I already owned coated.

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I don`t see why a powdercoated glovebox door would be worth any more than a painted one. And,only people with red or black would want one,if it matched their paint.I`m not trying to be rude, but I don`t get the point.Maybe I`m missing something.
I think you did the right thing by posting this for feedback. We all get ideas and it`s best to test the water to see if it`ll work.I know I`ve had my brainstorms.

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
I think that could be a good move. That`s what one of my great ideas was years ago. After having the gb door/astray/piece under column chromed for my`70 C/30 I was thinking to have a bunch of these parts done up and offer to sell. But,chrome prices started jumping up right about that time. Now,there are cheap repro chrome ones available anyway, less that the cost of chroming one.
But,if this chrome-look powdercoat looks good enough...

Re: WIW: Black or Red Powder Coated Glove Box Door
Rick, funny you ask. Weather is finally nice and we did some parts in chrome yesterday and the finish resembled a polished finish look. I'll be posting pics of those parts and other parts with prices later on or tomorrow.
