the truck has 54k miles on it, but from setting so long the motor has been leaking oil like crazy, and i have needed some more power. hopefully this will do the trick. it was kinda cool to take apart a motor that has NEVER been touched. everything you see is original on the motor.

board member Jtrux is a good friend of mine, he talked me into just doing it myself, and has held my hand through the job...thanks to josh!

here is a link with all kinds of photos.. more to follow.

Re: finaly. the old longhorn gets some attention

oh ya. i have a crack in the rams horn! doh, not sure what i should do. try to find a new/old one. the corvette one, or headers.

The corvette dumps straight down, not sure if it would work, and would require exhaust work..

headers.. sigh, not sure. i just never have luck with them, and im afraid ill have issues with the a/c brackets, and some of the stock fittings for things.. and they always freakin leak on me.

not sure what i will do.. wish it wasn’t cracked..

Re: finaly. the old longhorn gets some attention

I had NO idea you could buy factory replacements. Looks like a deal to me especially considering you wouldn't need to mess with the exhuast or anything. I'd still be hesitant to buy them immediatley personally cuz i've never heard of reproduction manifolds for our trucks. I wonder if anyone has some POSITIVE feedback on them, hell i'd also want to hear about some negative feedback on them. Anyone???

What I want about them is, are the as thick as factroy manifolds and is the fitment correct??

Dave,I`m impressed!Well, that is after I got over the envy, lol. Those repro manifolds are China made,of course.I`ve never had my hands on any but I`ve seen talk about them on this site before.I`m sure someone here can tell you about them.I think I`d want old OEMs as long as they`re out there.Do your`s have the block-offs?I`ve had`72s with them and without.Aren`t trhe two sides the same?

Re: finaly. the old longhorn gets some attention

got her mostly painted. bolted up the intake and fuel pump. cleaned and painted all the odds and ends. all in all good day.

anyone else a cigar smoker and try and smoke and work at the same time? i hate it when the cigar gets all slobbery! lol

i did put the cigar down when i saw gas dripping from the pump. not sure what the chances are of a stogie sparking gas is, but with my luck i didnt want to take the chance.

i left my camera at work, so sorry no picts, but tomorrow there will be some more.

Re: finaly. the old longhorn gets some attention

It is my understanding that the ram's horns won't work with Vortec heads. That is some excellent wear paterns on those bearings.

Great pictures! Great looking truck also!

huh? hum first i have heard of that. i did go out just now and mocked up the ramshorn, all the bolts line up, doesnt seem to be anything in the way...??? am i missing something?

oh and i put a few more picts up. also, notice my custom alternator bracket. i added a piece of flat metal to the top in hopes of solving the vibration problem i was having.. guess ill find out if it works later.
