water pump question
ok, pardon the newb questions....i want to install my new water pump with ARP bolts and felpro gaskets. Three questions: My block is freshly painted including the area where the gasket is going to go. Should I sand the paint of in those areas or doesn't it matter? Second, the ARP bolt kit came with 5 bolts, one being longer than the other four. I only see four bolt holes. Whats up with that?
Last question, should I put anything on the bolt threads? Oh, after researching, I plan to put a thin coat of hi-temp permatex on both sides of the gaskets. Sound like a plan? Thanks guys, josh Last edited by jlaird; 09-06-2008 at 08:35 PM. |

Re: water pump question
The longer bolt is there so it fits a couple of styles of water pump. Some of them need a longer bolt some dont. I'd clean the paint from where it mates up and use the permatex or silicone thinly on the gasket and lastly use some sealant on the bolts so you don't get a leak on the threads. Sounds like a plan.

Re: water pump question
Thanks for the response. After looking at the block, it looks like the lower right hand bolt hole is the only one that could leak because it is open ended. So I should put the permatex on the the threads?

Re: water pump question
Sure. About anything will seal it.

Re: water pump question
I wasn't aware there needed anything on the bolt threads. Should I pull the bolt(s) in question out and seal it?
