straight trailing arms

has anyone tried to make a set of trailing arms that are straight at the axle instead of the built in offset at the spring, i am bagging my c-10 and it will have a pretty low ride height. i was wondering if someone has made the arms straight to compensate for pinion angle. any help would be great guys.

Re: straight trailing arms

I have often wondered that too

I think it would change the pinion angle, but Im not sure that would be a bad thing being really low ???

Re: straight trailing arms

There are wedged spacers available or you could make a pair.

The circle burners come through again http://www.heintzperformance.com/home.php?cat=419 You would need to know what angle you need before ordering though.

Also I'd call and ask if they do indeed fit the stock truck arms. I didn't see anything that gave the exact measurements but it appears that they are 3-1/2 inches between the u bolt slots.

Re: straight trailing arms

I think the worst you would have to do is cut the welds & rotate the axle to the correct pinion angle

But I wonder if making the arms strait would let you go as low
There is a point where if you go low enough that the arms come in contact with the frame & with that kick up it may help to make the axle go higher

Im not sure, just thinking out loud again

Re: straight trailing arms

I've seen it done with straight arms made out of box tubing. Also ECE sells the new axle pads for the 67-72 style rearend. I'd say cut off the old axle pads and install new ones at the correct pinion angle and you should be fine. The truck I saw had a reworked 2"x4" box tube frame with a big notch,... so I don't know how much interference you will get with a stock frame.
