Parts delima...
As it has been documented on these pages, the Longhorn is not going yet, and the fundage isn't there to do anything either.
The heater controll in the GMC is just there for looks, no knobs on it at all. There is a toggle switch to tunr the blower on and off, and to select defroster or heater, I have to move the lever on the heater box its self. To adjust the heat selection, I have to reach under the dash and pull the back 1/2 of the heater face plate out (it's broken into 2 pieces) and slide the broken arm over to get the desired heat. The one in the Longhorn is perfect. It has all the arms, a good switch, and a good resister too. I could pull these parts out of the longhorn and into the GMC, but that'll be one more thing to swap over come drive time on the Longhorn. Also, as my dad said, if I do that, it'll be real easy to justify taking something else off of it to put on the GMC, then where would it stop? What do y'all think? Swap, or deal with the PITA heater in the GMC as a reminder that i need to get to work (in NO shop) on the Longhorn? |

Thanks. I was kinda leaning to my dad's opinion too, but it is a real PITA to mess with that sucker. |

i'd say deal with it, i'm in taht same situation, my part truck thati ameventully gonna sue the cab has a aesome interoir, an my dialy driver had none, nothing. if itake one part off the parts truck i wont stop, so i'm not. my heater in my driver doesnt ork, never has, and i dont kow how to fix it, but its prob a lot colder up there than here

No, you dont want to pull pcs from the longhorn.......I have been down that road. 1 pretty hot little 327 that I built for the longhorn ended up in my driver,& set me back some time. it would have been a nice combo backed by that M21 muncie& the 4.10 gears........but never ran it in the longhorn

I haven't had to live up in that kind of weather for a while Andy, but I agree with your dad. If you can bear with it now, then do. It'll be easy to startstripping the Longhorn once you start, then it'll be that mnuch more when the spring thaws come around to get it road worthy.
You gave me a ton of help so far, and I figure you'll be spreading it out for a while to come, If I had anything that would help it would be on the way.

wow...everyone agrees with my dad...this is a nightmare. You guys don't all think we should be driving electric cars too do you? If so, i'll know my dad is paying you and I'll be leaving.

As for the electric cars, they may be easier on the oil supply but, a big block is a lot more fun. |

Or you could drive your sorry butt over to my house. Dig through my 2 or 3 boxes full of heater controls. Use them to build a good one. Then put it in while you are here. And as always, ITS FREE.

Andy, your Dad is right (they usually are). Don't mess with what works! I have several parts/pieces of non-A/C and A/C heater stuff. Tell me what you need specifically as this stuff is not exactly "rare-collector-items" and the price is like Mike's!! Of course it may require you to get off you dead butt and actually fix something right in the GMC~~~~why is it we tend to avoid doing the "right thing" for our daily drivers while we spend mega bucks for the "thing back in the barn that we hardly ever use"?? Longhorn, to be honest i only ran 600-700 miles this yr, & usually average 1000-1500 mi per yr on the old truck. the first 6 yrs I had ZERO miles on that old longhorn, it was completely dismantled & took up a 3 stall garage to house all the parts(go figure,it fit in 1 stall when I backed it in
) At any rate, life is what happens when you are making other plans.........it happened to me in the middle of a "resto rod". 18 yrs later, I still havent logged over 10,000- 12,000 mi on the old truck......or painted it, but I am 1 stubborn old man,& will see it done!

Crazy: I think I'm going through the same thing with my "other" project. I've driven it a total of 8 hours at MOST since getting it back on the road 2 1/2 years ago.
What about rigging something up with control cables? It may not be stock or even look that great but if it's easy to install and means working your heater isn't going to be a PITA, then it might be worth the effort. I'm thinking even brake cables for a bike might work. Just .02 Greg
