Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

So hurricane Ike is blowing into my little ville, and I am faced with a seriously tough decision, which truck do I leave behind, my dually, that has my welder and all my tools on board, or my blazer that I can sleep in and it is worth way more. Tough choice.

I am really dreading it.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

put your blazer in tow behind the dually with the welder and all the tools on board, and head inland, sleep in the blazer . it is worth it in the long run. Tough choice and there is a solution to the problems. hang in there, were all praying for you.

Get your family to a safe place. Your trucks/tools can be replaced, not your loved ones. As has been said, we will keep you in our prayers that you stay safe.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

Good luck during the storm. I dont want to push any trouble off on anyone else; but I am breathing a little easier now that Ike seems to be going further south. Looks like we will still get some wind and rain. Waiting to see how the weatherman thinks things will go before we make a move. Hopefully Ike can just fizzle out in the gulf and fall apart; but I doubt it.

I`m hopin` Ike clams down like Gustav. My first thought was take the welding rig since it`s your livelyhood. But,insurance may take better care with that than your classic.I`d look at the insurance end of it.Good luck.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

I understand where you are coming from. Been there and done that. Labor day weekend we left for Gustaf. I spent about $800.00 of my new shop electrical stash cash. I left about 4 nice trucks. Get your family, important pictures and papers and never look back. I am in Beaumont - Port Arthur area and got hit with Rita 3 years ago on the 24th. All of my houses did pretty good, but my shops and truck barn had a lot of damage. I still have not fixed all of my fences. Trust me it sucks. Good luck and do not wait to late to get on the road.

I might still have to leave if this thing goes north. I am still packed up from last week.

I hear you, I brought a load of wire down after rita, things were pretty messed up then.

I think I am going to bounce out to laredo, drive my blazer, put my truck in the garrage and board it up good, hope for the best and take everything I have that is valuable like my guns and what not with me.

I am not going to head out too far, I am going need to be back in Corpus ASAP, I work for a crane company, so I am going to have to be back in a hurry to go to work. I think the next couple of weeks are going to be crazy dealing with the work load from the storm.

[QUOTE=special-K;2883738]I`m hopin` Ike clams down like Gustav....QUOTE]

Here in the Heart of Arkansas, we had Gustav for three days. Rained out the wazoo, trees blown over, homes flooded, power out for days.

What calm?

For those who live along the coasts of the Gulf, including my daughter in FL., I envy you as long as the weather is nice. I love the water, the breezes. What I wouldn't like would be the way that you have to pay and pay and pay for that privilege...insurance; rebuilding; loss of property; lack of coverage; Y3.

My daughter pays in three months for her home insurance, what the wife and I pay for a year....and we have three times the house they do.

That is a huge part of it. it is way cheaper to live inland. I dont have insurance on my place though, it is a 3500.00 trailer, isnt like im going to need that premium.

Weld up a tow bar for the blazer if you don't already have one!!!

My mom and dad (his 71 GMC is my avatar since it is the only finished truck I have a pic of) live near Port Lavaca, and said that since there house made it through Carla, they are going to batten the hatches and stay.

Load them up and run to the hills, I am in florida in the hurricane capital of the world. It is the price you pay for living in paradise. Secure all your important documents, rent a uhaul trailer and pull the second truck and go.

Re: Hey Ike, make 7 UP yours!

Good luck, lets hope it turns south of Brownsville. We are leaving today, to stay out of the traffic jam if this one makes the turn towards Galveston/Houston that the Weather Channel said is still possible. Like others have said get yourself and family members out, any possesions that you can not carry can be replaced. I also have a trailer here in Galveston County. I would not stay in one anywhere close to the path of a hurricane of any category.

I've lived here for 12 years. Through all of them Had no reason to leave. I said, If it blows down the house, then oh well. We'll be in it so atleast we wont be here to pay for the damages.

I have yet to worry about weather.

Re: Running from ike

got you (texas gulf coast) in my prayers. i just spent a week trying to get over Gustav and the mess, flood waters and power outages, and it has'nt been fun or over yet. if you have any extra gas cans and are traveling in a truck................stock up. the fuel gets scarce fast during evacs, not to mention the stalled traffic on the interstates and highways, but the state came through and had mobile fueling trucks to avoid dead, stranded vehicles on the highway. Louisiana also did the reverse flow on interstates during the Gustav evac and i was told that it helped make travel a lot easier. i live in the middle of the state, and did not evacuate, but Gustav's eye moved over us at about 11:30 pm that night packing 80 to 110 mile per hour winds. the next night we got 12 to 15 inches of rain in about 5 hours and the result was lots of flooding and mess. there are still some homes in my city with 36" of water in them. good luck and stay safe.
