Newbie 1960 trying to get it to go on the freeway
Just purchase 1960 apacha 20 with torsion bar front end and a 4.56 rear, of course 8 lug. Has a 350 with sm420 trans. Need some input on what is the best possible solution to have my beauty freeway ready. thank for the input.

An overdrive or 4.10 gears for the Eaton are your best choices. 4.10 gears for the Eaton can be found in the 67 to 72 3/4 ton trucks.

Re: Newbie 1960 trying to get it to go on the freeway
With 31" tires and the 4.56 gears you will be turning 3,000 rpm at 60 mph. Definitely not highway friendly. 4.10 gears will mean 2,700 rpm at 60. Those are the best gears you will find for the 10 bolt rear end. Your only other options are an overdrive tranny or a different rear end. 700R4 auto will make 2100 rpm at 60. The 12 bolt rear can be found with 3.54, iirc. and the 14 bolt is an easy score with 3.73, some of the newer had 3.42.
