Looking for this part

Hello, I need to find a clean rust free one of these for my '73. These bolt underneath the bed, behind the rear wheels. They are a splash shield of some kind, but not sure of their official name. I only need the right (passenger) side, as mine was a casualty of a bad burn out. I am pretty sure they changed thruought the years, so if you have one, please compare these pics to yours...and post a pic of it if possible. Thanks!

Re: Looking for this part

Jeff,
hmmm.. I "think" there is a set of these on a 73-77 bed out at a yard around here... I had to pull the driveshaft from that truck for my 74 and me thinks those were on the bed yet... won't be able to get out there till after school one of the days this week though... I will check for you...

Re: Looking for this part

Thats just a flat pice with 2 bead rolls in it. Have any body that has a bead roller near you, race car fab shops. I could make you 2 of those(l and r) in about 30minutes. All you need is some metal the same thickness, or close, place one of yours on top an trace it over to the next piece. Cut and put 2 bead rolls in it.

Re: Looking for this part

I know they would be easy to make...but I would prefer GM pieces for my restoration. No need to cut corners now, not after I have come this far.

Re: Looking for this part

Jeff,
Yeah I did and the info is much appreciated!!! 20 bucks "seems" steep for those brackets... I do have a rear bracket from a 79 blazer that is OH so tempting to use....

Re: Looking for this part

I was going to suggest something a little heavier since your doing burn outs, You could put in a nice piece of diamond plate in there to add strength.

I WAS doing burnouts. I was in a Car Craft burn out contest when this happened...don't plan on doing that anymore, at least not in this truck. I also damaged the bed floor, fender lip, and nuked my posi...it was an expensive exhibition.

Re: Looking for this part

Is there a part number or something on those pieces. If not why spend money on gm parts when you can make them for 20 bucks or so for the pair. Nobody will ever know the difference, noe even gm. But if thats what you want ok. I will check my truck, I will sell you mine and make me some new ones.

I am hoping I can get the one I need, used, for $20. Unless you know me, you wouldn't understand why I do the things I do. I have gone way beyond what some people would do to their truck if they were restoring it...I tend to be anal about a lot of things, don't want to cut corners, and want to use as many GM pieces as I can. If you want to see what I am talking about, check out my site in my signature...you'll see my truck on there, maybe it will help you understand where I am coming from.

But back on topic, If you have one, and don't want to charge ma an arm and a leg, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Looking for this part

HEY...GOOD NEWS!!! I found a set for you, just have to get them off... OR if you dont mind, I can take them off my 74 and just replace them when I get the chance, but my friend does have a set of them that look pretty solid... I think the bed is out of dakota... just an FYI, I have no idea what they cost as he was out on a hunting trip... hope that makes monday a bit better...

Re: Looking for this part

well i have to get time to go out there and pull them, but if your in a pinch Ill pull mine out of my 74 and Ill just replace them with the other ones when I get there... Is 30 bucks for the pair fair??? Now that I think about it, Ill most likely be making a run to the cities the weekend on Dec 6th and we could meet up some where and give em to you... we could PM about this instead of boring the board with the details... lemme know what you want to do...

Re: Looking for this part

Hey there... I went out to the yard on Tueday to pull your panels and the bed is covered in a snow bank ... had a heck of a time even getting back there... anyway, my 74 has a bunch of xtra holes drilled in them for these stupid mudflaps that the PO installed... I could pull them and weld up and sand the holes for you.... I'd like to try to get out there yet before break is done, but I have some additional plumbing to repair in our nesw house and Im not sure I can make it happen... ALSO ANOTHER FRIGGIN SNOWSTORM FOR THS WEEKEND.... we have 26 inches in a sheltered part of our back yard, unreal... lemme know..

Mike, I still want/need them. If you want to pull the ones off your 74 that is cool with me. I can take care of welding them up, I just don't want dented/rusted pieces. Let me know what I owe, I'll send the $4 right away.

Re: Looking for this part

well, good news and bad.... I got out tot he yard and pulled the two panels off the bed... dug through the snow and got too em, BUT they were a little rustier than I had originally thought, however they are the nicer pair compared to what I had on my 74... I think yours are in better shape than either what I pulled in the yard OR mine on my 74 (a few winters did a toll on them . I can still send them down, or I can try to fix 'em and see what happens... I personally would try to save your pass side one before I would go for these.. but I have em if you want them... sorry man... tried...

Re: Looking for this part

well on second thought, you (or I) could cut off the lower segment of your damaged panel and graft on the undamaged part fo the JY panel and could prolly get anice looking part out of the two???? Lemme know...
