Rust Opinions
I have found several products on the market that "converts" rust and turn it black, at that point it is safe to prime and paint over. This is supposed to stop the rust where its at and create a stable substrate to paint over. What do you guys think? I have a few areas that this would be a great alternative to costly and time consuming blasting. The areas I have in mind are not rusted through but some surface pitting. Anybody use any? All comments welcome.

Do a search in the paint and body section, there are several threads that discuss this topic.

Re: Rust Opinions
Thanks for the help, I was worried that this type of product is just a band-aid and wouldnt last.

Re: Rust Opinions
I like Permatex.TSC sells something that is crap, stay away!It turns white and crusty, like oxidation. What good is that?By the time you sand it,what protection do you have? The Permatex lasts at least 6 months when left uncoated.I`d still scuff the area up just to ask less from the product.I mean, you can sand rust off.Sandblasting is just easier and faster.
