Re: I have an idea
I haven't seen that ad in years but I think the one you're referring to was for half-cab trucks.
Do you have a link? |

Re: I have an idea
the easiest way would be to go to an upholstery shop or a boating store where they make canvass coverings for the boat they could custom make you one

Re: I have an idea
yeah i get kind of pissy when poeple want to close in blazers, the entire point of having a blazer is a convertable 4x4, (or some 2x4's) blazers were debued to compete with jeeps broncos and ram chargers most all of which are convertables, if you want an inclosed cab buy a truck!

Re: I have an idea
I have to disagree with you 1974k5blazer. Most Jeeps had soft tops as do most convertables. Jeeps also come with an interior that can stand exposure to the elements. Most Broncos, Ram Chargers and Blazers had removable hard tops so you could remove the top but most of the interiors are not designed to have it off all or most of the time. I actually prefer the Blazer (and Bronco and Ram Charger) over jeeps because of the permanance and security of the hard top. I also like the AC. I like the idea of the halftop because when its just me and my girl we don't need to heat or cool the entire cab just the part we are using. Besides it looks really cool
Sorry for jacking the thread lifted 75 k5. I would like to help but cannot find the pic you're talking about. More info please as I would like to find one too. |

it would still be convertible with a tonno cover, just much easier to convert, and portable....

1974k5blazer
Account Suspended Says it all. lifted 75 k5 I understand what you were talking about but don't have any info on where to get one. I looked at the issue of Trukin currently in the store and couldn't find the pic you were refering to. I had designed a couple of alternatives to a full top when I was 4 wheeling for the same reasons you spoke of except I didn't have 2500$ worth of stereo (more like 25$). I'll see if I can find the plans and post them if you want. The only proplem with what I designed was it was about 500$ worth of upholstery work and 200$ worth of materials (1990 dollars) |

Would it be too much trouble for you to scan and upload the picture? I don't think you have told us if it was a soft cover or hard cover.

Re: I have an idea
It shows the business is for sale, and says they are not taking any new orders.. Wonder just how hard it would be to find one on the open market..

Re: I have an idea
Man that Skyler top is sweet, you could probably have an upholstery shop build you one though.

Re: I have an idea
ok with that description i found what you were talking about. I had designed a cover to fit flush with the bed inside the bedrails. The prototype was made of wood but the design called for sheet metal possibly aluminum cut and bent to fit then upholstered. I ran pan head bolts through the top of the bedrail throught the existing hardtop bolt holes and fabbed brackets to hold the cover to the bottom of the same bolts. You had to crawl under the cover to attach it to the bedrail and once it was installed you could not open the tailgate from the outside. My original stopped directly behind the rear seat which made it hell for me to get on and off. the good part of the design was that it could be mounted with the top on also. i'll see if i can find some pics the ex DIDN'T take.
I don't believe ANYONE is still making these types of covers commercially any more. Skyler was the only one I know of and it is not very secure. Your best bet is to get one custom made or make it your self. Last edited by tobiahr; 10-09-2008 at 08:51 AM. |

Of course you would need something to cover the back of the cab too.

Re: I have an idea
I actually cut up a Gaylord cover in the summer, my mistake was to section it from the middle. I was thinking that there was a metal frame covered in fiver glass. I think the easiest way to do it is to cut the tonneau cover at the front where it would be closest to the cab if it were on a pick up. then bolt on a cross member to the bed rails were the blazer top normally bolts on was my idea. Best of luck with this post pictures if you can! I post some pictures as soon as i stop buying stuff for the trucks and buy a digicam.
