Need Help With Allison ?
I am looking at buying a 02 Duramax with the Allison in it. I have never driven one before so i dont know how they act. My question is when your driving it feels like it cant find the right gear and is searching for it. Is this normal, the dealer says thats what the allisons act like. Do they?
And how long do the duramax/allisons last? It has 80000 miles on it and is in really nice condition.

Re: Need Help With Allison ?
The D-Max/Allison lasts a loong time. I've seen 500K on one without a rebuild. So you are safe.

Re: Need Help With Allison ?
I would have a good tranny guy drive it! I love the allison but mine is smooth. I just bought my second duramax/allison truck and this one has 150k on it.

My father got a 05 dura and and we felt the same thing a few timets so we looked up on it and it does that to protect its self from damage specially in the winter so its just how it is. but we love the truck.

Re: Need Help With Allison ?
The Duramax "defuels" during shifts, so it will feel different from a gasoline powered truck if your not used to them. I have 100k miles on mine and it has been perfect. I serviced the fluids twice so far and zero indication of any wear on the inside of the pan.

Re: Need Help With Allison ?
www.dieselplace.com has a lot of good info on the Allison transmissions.
