Underbed Gas Tank
I'm looking to getting the gas tank out of the cab of my 70, and want to a underbed conversion, whats a good/inexpensive source for this kit? and also does it just bolt in right in, or are there any modifications to do?

The Blazer tank is pretty popular. A lot of vendors sell kits to install the Blazer tank into a truck. When I did mine I was doing a fuel injection conversion at the same time so I had Mark (fuelcellguy) build a fuel cell for me. I had my filler behind my marker light.
The biggest part you need to figure out is how you want to put the gas in. Here are some I have seen: install a filler door into the bedside like on a newer vehicle make your side marker flip open and have the filler behind it some people have done a flip down taillight with the filler behind that some people cut a hole in their bed floor and fill there another option that's neat is John Fabris' filler out the stake pocket You can do a board search to find all of the above fillers if you haven't already decided which route to go.

inexpensive would be the junkyard blazer tank... or spend about $225 for a poly or steel kit from one of the vendors. Aluminum cost about $450 and SS is over $600ish....
Some take modifications to the bed crossills and some don't. All will take some modification for a filler hole. You can go easy with a door in the bed floor or hidden like the marker filler. some just bolt in a summit fuel cell for $150 and go...

The tank is very easy to install. It only requires cutting out one small crossmember - 2 rivets and drilling 6 holes. |

I bought one of the generic truck tanks from www.tanksinc.com. It's slightly wider than the opening in the frame, but I don't think I'm going to have to open up the frame more than about 1/4" on each side to have it fit. A friend of mine used on in his and it turned out great. Several filler options. Mine looks different than the pics and has some integral holes to mount it with brackets so there will be no straps.

My son & I did a blazer tank with a sidemarker fill on his 72 LWB. The important thing is to try to get the gas fill to go as straight as you can with a minimal amount of bends so it will take gas with the nozzle wide open.I have heard of some people having issues with not being able to fill at full flow.
