Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
it's a rivet, so you will have to either
1. grind the head off then with a center punch and drive them out 2. or air chisel the head off 3. or drill them out with a decent drill bit. they aren't exactly the easiest fastener to take out, but it's do-able with a bit of elbow grease. don't freak!!

I don't think you want to be taking that out. besides the oil pan should come right out.

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
I agree with scremming eagle, that engine looks low in the cradle, but you dont want to remove that cross bracket! let us know if we can be of any further help.

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
As tcb-1 mentioned, it's a rivet. I used an air chisel to remove them on a transmission crossmember. Could possibly be do-able with a hammer and a good quality chisel but you'll be madder'n a wet hen doing it that way.
For sure, one thing these old trucks will test is your patience and perseverence. |

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
I wouldn't take it out. Get a hoist from somebody to lift on the motor if you can't get it out any other way. Also try rotating the crank some if the pan is hanging on a particular spot on it to get it out of the way.

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
If youre gunna use cinder blocks for jack stands turn it on its open side so the center web and sides support the wieght , I would recomend you make certain the brick is not cracked ANY where discard it If that truck falls on you you prolly wont need to be concerned about an oil pan!

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
first rule my dad taught me before I started working on my truck was don't ever put it up on cinder blocks. They will crumble without warning.
Jack stands are cheap, your body or life, not so much. Last edited by 67chevyguy; 10-04-2008 at 10:16 PM. |

First thing is first, get jack stands, your life or a hundred bucks for safety. Second, you dont want that cross member out. It is there to keep the front clip together.

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
Also check the motor mounts, they may need replacing, from the looks of the motor in the cradle.

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
I hope you werent planning to jack the engine up by the balancer. it will damage it and BAD things will happen. get an engine hoist and attach it to the front of both cylinder heads.
why you taking the pan off? leaking gasket? |

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
to get the oil pan off is you gotta lift your motor up about 3 inches it is the biggest pain in the butt though...make sure you get that gasket sealed up because that would suck!!

Re: help me cuz im getti angry!
I had that same problem when I replaced my oil pan gasket. All you have to do is lift the engine up a few inches. You can pick it up by the harmonic balancer using a 2x4 and your floor jack. Just make sure that you have it steady before you go sticking your hands under the engine.
Just go slow and a have a buddy around to help out. BTW I would recommend getting a one piece oil pan gasket they are WAY better than that four piece set-up that most places give you. |

Anybody notice the bend in the driver side spring? There is one on pass side but not as bad.
