And Now, The Alternator/charging system...

So, now that I got the Starter fixed, I still need to resolve the charging system. I replaced the alternator from the same source I got the starter, after having it tested of course, but I am still only getting 12.42-3 on the meter while its running.

My next step is to swap out the Voltage Regulator, but I am also open to any other suggestions.

okay, I'm getting 13.4ish at around 1500, but shouldn't it be higher at Idle?

Re: And Now, The Alternator/charging system...

Well, I played a hunch and went ahead and put in the Regulator out of the parts truck (the truck I am working on had an after market replacement) and bingo 14.80 across the posts

So, the alternator was probably alright.... but the post out of the back was loose and wiggly... (I had fun doing the Alt swap too, because the top hole was stripped and the bolt broke off and I had to swap out the front cover between alts.

And the morale of this story is next time I'ma get me a one wire Alt and do it right

Thus is the price of doing things for free...

Next: Rebuild the Carb and change out the tires but thats another story for another day.
