New Emissions issue, what do I do

I live in Lake county Indiana where they check for emissions on I think everything 1976 and newer. I have a 1979 stepside I just tore apart and planned on building a 420 hp 383. The way to get around emissions was to simply plate your truck using 10,000 lbs plates. I just found out today they are not allowing this any more. I could plate my truck in another county, but would it be possible to pass emissions with an engine pushing the hp I am planning on? What do I do????

Out here in the Valley its tough.....most people build old stuff to get around the issue. When people build emmisions engines they just have to run ALL the emissions equipment to pass visual and make sure your cats are good and more than likely it will pass. Powerful engines are also efficient, it should be cleaner than a stocker w/ 150k on the clock. Good luck.

If you go the route of another county, go to Laporte county. Porter county does the emissions thing also. I had a friend that lived in Laporte county and just plated my cars there.
