As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
Well, someone recomended me getting some Longhorn photos, and just this morning fine69 was tellinme I should get the sucker out since I haven't even fired it up since I got the burb back on the road.... so, here it is... my beater with a heater
The screws work 100 times better than the glue that is supposed to hold these on. 1970 C/30 chevy longhorn with a 69 GMC front clip. Rusty and crusty.... but pretty well trusty... would you believe I painted that bumper and grill just over a year ago??? Gotta love road salt and brine. I STILL hate that bumper. But, i guess it's better than nothing. |

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
Not much original in here... just the floor mat. Otherwise, i think EVERYTHING has been swapped out since I got it in 02.
Love those overlays Not bad for a total budget beater huh? I think i paid 120 bucks for the seats shipped to my door... new! Yeah, been running with no air filter for a while now. It throws oil so bad it was clogging the air filter... and I simply haven't gotten around to fixing the leak. I *PLAN* on getting started on that this weekend. Caddy 425 worn 30 over, and makin a little noise bolted to a fresh TH350 and a 4.10 eaton rear. I have a dana 3.54 in mothballs right now... i need to start thinking about swapping it in. So there it is... thanks for the excuse to use the new digi-cam. The photos came out kinda not-so awesome... but I was only half into it, so I am pleased. |

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
Mike... it is technicly still a Longhorn, but, you are 100% correct.
The 133 inch wheel base fleet side trucks from GMC were called custom campers. I have the badging for that here in my desk, but I said screw it. It's a longhorn. The hubcaps on it right now are the ones off the burb (wheels and tires too) I have nice GMC hub caps and beauty rings on good looking rims (not mis matched ones like now, front 16 and rear 16.5). The nice rims have bald tires, and the engine spews so much oil, it covers the right rear wheel and cap, so I have the chevy ones. So other than the hub caps, and the longhorn badges verses Custom Camper ones... it has been all chainged out to GMC. The adge on the console, tail gate, the front clip, even had a GMC steering wheel untill i went with the firebird one on there now. |

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
I had a bumper just like that on my '70 - it was the first thing that came off! Definitely hefty, though.

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
it was one of the first things to come off the old 69 SWB GMC too... but for some reason, I kept it for 2 years and then it went on this once I got it.
i shoulda thrown it away when i had the chance. |

Hey...I still think that is an awesome "one-weekend" paint job. I don't know of anyone who gets more work done on a limited schedule and budget!!!

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
Pretty cool budget build Longhornman! What did you have to do to the gauge cluster to install the auto meter gauges in the lower gauge openings? Does that cab have the raised stantions for those clearance lights, or did someone just add those to that roof?

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
The clearance lights, I just drilled holes and ran wires.
I don't recomend it... not enough room. The guages... not auto meters... all my guages conbined were less than one autom meter guage. I chopped the plastic lens out of the way, then cut up the tin untill I could mount the guage to the bezel. It was quite barbaric, and embarasing. |

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
They look good on the outside though! Were the white face decals hard to put on the stock gauges?

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
What the heck did ya paint the Caddy mill Ford Blue for? Add...about that dizy location
Hey,ya need a Torque Monster to haul that extra 6"s,right?I`d like one in one of my trucks. The guy I bought my wrecker from has one and, yes, that was the plan. But,I`m sure he`d want more than it`s worth. That`s a classy hauler to have in waiting for when needed.

Buick and Cadillac had the distributors in the front like a Ford. I like the Caddy motor. Should have a 400 turbo behind it!

Re: As requested... nothing special (longhorn pics)
The Th350 will hold up fine for what I use it for.
I painted it Ford blue becouse the caddy blue looks gayer than a rainbow bright doll on the dash and my little pony stickers in the window... chevy orange in all reality, would look stupid IMO, and the ford blue.... well, it IS a nice looking shade. |
