Leaf or coil springs
Which is more desirable and why? There is a 67 gmc frame with leaf springs (shortbed) and a chevy with coil springs. I am sure there is differences on the ride but am not sure what.

Re: Leaf or coil springs
Hey I am rather new but this is my .02. With a rear leaf sprung truck it is easier to drop it with really low ride height. On the other hand a coil truck you can bag and relocate the bags and shocks for adjustable heights. The front is the same with a Z mod to the frame.
What are you planning on doing? How low? Are you doing the welding and work yourself? I would say coil, but plan on some work and parts to bag it and have it sit on the ground. Last edited by RustenPaines; 10-29-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

Coils and bags ride better in my opinion.

Re: Leaf or coil springs
I had a GMC with leafs. One of the main reasons why I got my 68 Chevy is cause it has the coil spring rear suspension (it's also a shortbed )
I got severe wheel hop on the leaf springs when I was at the track. |

Re: Leaf or coil springs
Leaf springs are supposedly better for towing.

Re: Leaf or coil springs
I think that is because of their natural "anti sway" effect, since you have to twist the leaf when you move one tire up and the other stays the same.. so to say which is better depends on your use really. |
