Interchangeable brake booster?
I wanted to know if you can swap the two different common types of brake boosters on 81-82 trucks, I have the shorter width, larger diameter booster on my truck, which has gone bad, and a good larger width smaller diameter booster on hand. Anybody know of any differences that would make them non-interchangeable?

Re: Interchangeable brake booster?
The 2 types are HD (dual diapram) and non HD. If I remember correctly the rod is different lengths.

Re: Interchangeable brake booster?
Well, I was wrong on the diameter, they are both the same. The good other one is thicker, I'll bet its the dual diaphragm. It came off a suburban. I lined them up side by side and there was no noticeable difference in rod length in this instance. I tore it all down and removed the old one, I have the new one loosely on there, we'll see how it all runs when everything is tightened up.

Re: Interchangeable brake booster?
All the burbs I have ever worked on or took apart had HD boosters, did you swap rods from one to the other or use what was on the booster?

Re: Interchangeable brake booster?
It swapped over fine, I used the burb's rod, bolted in like it belonged there. I am still unable to make this turd idle, keeps dying out.

Re: Interchangeable brake booster?
That's weird. One time I had a truck with the light duty boost and put the HD booster on it. Used the same rod and it worked just fine.

That was the case with mine, bolted up fine.
