I've been running one for a few years now. No problems at all, always cranks even after sitting for a few weeks.

Im using an Orbital Six, just like an Optima. I like it, and it looks way better than a standard crusty battery.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

I have a yellow top in my willys it has been there four years and I only run the jeep a day or two every 4to5 weeks and it starts no fail every time and no acid leaks that I like! I even have it on it's side to fit under the seat acid free is good for me.

Out here in Idaho it's a must to have one of these - only battery that will always start a chevy when it's more than -30 outside!

Re: whos runnin an optima?

I'm in the minority here. I've had three (one red, two yellows) and I do not think I will ever buy one again. They all seem to discharge from sitting around a lot faster than traditional batteries. I have a yellow top in my Nissan wheelin' rig and it is always half-dead when I go to drive it. My K5 had a red-top that kicked the bucket way too early in life. My boat received a yellow-top this summer and it discharged like heck by fall (and I have a battery disconnect on the boat).

Overall, not impressed. I hear good things about Orbitals though. One of the wheelin' boards I go on had a thread a while back about how the quality of Optimas have slipped over the last few years. Apparently they made a good name for themselves then something changed and now they are mostly junk. I'll see if I can find a link.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

I have red ones in each of my trucks. The first one I had was draining after sitting for long periods in the stepside with a small draw on it. They don't do well if not charged right.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

I have tried a red top and a yellow top. Neither one lasted the winter, but they did not get used a whole lot. I probably didn't recharge them right and they were ruined. My expensive fault!!!!

Re: whos runnin an optima?

My brother has the red one in his 75 duster and it will drain in about 6 months if left idle even not pluged in, My dad has the yellow one in his 68 gto and it sits all winter and only gets out a couple times a year with no problems, me and my brother took it out for a drive and we left the lights on for 2 weeks until he went to drive it and found out then, he also found out about the scratch the same day, but it charged right up. Oh and my orange truck whooped it's a$$

After 4 junk red tops, I will NEVER own another optima battery again either.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

A lot of these new tehnology batteries need a special charger and older ones can damage them. I was looking at the oddysey batteries for my truck as it needs a new one but they are pretty pricey over here.

They are pretty pricey over here!
The nice thing about the odyssey it is both a deep cycle & a starting battery.
It is true they don't like fast charges, but a maintainer charger is best.
They list one on their site.
I have one in my Land Cruiser and have had 0 problems since October 06. My Cruiser sits allot during the week, and I haven't put a charger on it.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

Good thing Optima's have a good warranty! I had to swap mine out 3 times over the course of a winter. I eventually just bought a Die Hard Gold. The Die Hard will start 'er up in -40 with no problems.

Re: whos runnin an optima?

Have two optimas in jeeps with winches. One is five years old going strong in it's second rig and the other is in a CJ I just put together last winter. It's what starts when it's below 0. Everything else just try's, optima does. .02

Re: whos runnin an optima?

I have one and have ran it for almost a year now. I remember the first time I turned the truck over after installing it, and this might sound crazy, but it seemed to start/run a lot better.

IMO, definitely worth the money!

Also, I purchased mine at Sam's Club for a little cheaper than the auto parts stores, and for some reason it came with an additional year of warranty.
