What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

My friend has his fathers original GMC suburban, and it has standard side markers on it. My GMC truck has Deluxe markers. What determines this option? He's thinks all the GMC's he's seen has had standard markers except mine....

I can't answer your question, but... or you in CO or NM? Just noticed the historic vehicle plate on your truck.

Speaking of sidemarkers, I got these cool ones from Brothers.
I think they're later model van sidemarkers.

Re: What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

I have a rusted out plain jane 70 GMC stepside. 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, no options, radio delete.. and it has the deluxe marker lights. All my well optioned chevy's have the plain lights.

I am not sure of the years....someone will chime in sooner or later. It is possible (and very probable) that someone put different ones on. I have seen regular, no-optioned trucks with deluxe markers, asit is easy to swap them out.

Re: What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

69 - 72 chevys with the CST/cheyenne or cheyenne super package all came with the delux style markers. All others (including 68 cst and lesser packages) came with the standard lenses.
Sinister's markers are in fact off an 85 to 90-ish van.

Re: What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

I have a '71 Jimmy "Custom," it came with the deluxe side markers, OEM, but they were cracked and faded. I changed them out for a set of fresh standard markers, which in my opinion are brighter and look better. Especially when parked next to my standard-optioned '68 C/10 Stepside.

The owner. After 35-40 years many have been changed.I know most vendors sell both but I have seen more deluxe sold than standard. This leads me to believe that most people replace either with deluxe.

Re: What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

It has always been talked about how GMC added options without any rhyme or reason. My 70 GMC Custom came with a 350ci w/3spd manual, No power anything, but had the headliner w/trim, deluxe side markers and upper & lower wood grain trim package w/tailgate trim. Front & rear glass trim. Did not come with factory gauges. My SPID just says Custom Option, 350 engine & that's it. So, go figure.....

Re: What determines side marker lights - standard or deluxe?

We got to talking about this again today at work and we noticed all the suburbans seem to have the standard side markers. Can anyone confirm this?

The 72 blazer I just parted out was a CST and it had the deluxe ones on it. Don't know if that will help any.

there was never a CST or cheyenne package on the burbs. That's why they all had the base model markers.

I didn't know that, is that because they were considered more of a work truck?
