picture thread... burbin around some more

All this was actually 2 to 3 weeks ago, and it was a failed attempt.
I wanted to close the cruise season with an insparational thread. A thread of me takin the burb and my son Jay, seemingly all over the country, and even the world, but, the catch would have been, I never left Ohio.
Most states have towns that are named after other places. How many states have a Columbus, or a springfield, or middletown... ect. We have all those right here in Ohio. Well, like most states, we also have citys named after other places world wide... like Dublin.
I planned on getting photos of the burb, or myself, in front of the city limit sign on many of these places... or, things in the background that make you instantly think that I am in that other place.
I should have known that my son wasn't up for the misson. However, we DID get to go cruisin for the best part of the day. When I saw he was gettin REAL board, and I saw that we were only 25 miles away from my cousin's house in Ada Ohio (we both have sons about the same age) I called all the fun off, and went to pop in.
You shoulda seen the surprise on there faces when I said we just happened to be in the neighborhood and felt like saying hi.
I think I'll try this plan again some other time, but maybe not all in one day. I did burn up 1 1/2 tanks of fuel.... but it was worth every penny.

We start off with a calico colored 72 burb;

A bored 15 year old kid named Jay;

Me with my cheap sunglasses;

and the first of many CDs to be heard (starting with AC/DC's latest)

A quick stop to fill the cooler...

And 15 min later, we hit the road for a day of pointless fun.

First stop... Deleware.

I learned a VALUABLE lesson here in Deleware... Just becouse the street is dry, doesn't mean the grass is. I also learned (for the second or third time) that even if there is a trail where a farmer pulls his equipment into his field, that doesn't mean your heavy ass burb will do it too.
Case in point;

Yeah, I got somewhat stuck. I just backed in to turn around, and my exhaust was hanging just a bit toolow, which drug on the ground as I tried to pull out, and that, along with the fact I was not wanting to throw the farmer's mud around, and the fact that it was all wet, slowed me down enough to where I had to back up fiurther into the mud and try again.
And again
And yes.... again.

I did manage to get out though. A big block and peg leg one wheel drive rear, are not the BEST tools for playing in the mud.
While the photos look like it was lame, it was just a step or two above being lame. I did actually cover the rear frame rails with mud, packed the rear bumper with mud, and even managed toget some on the roof of the burb.
I still try to understand how in the world it actually gets on the roof... and the windshield for that matter.

Re: picture thread... burbin around somemore

On a side note... I stopped to take a leak at a BK in Marysville right off Rt33. and I see this.

I wonder if we can get some truck members to show up on a cold winter day for a little cruise in fun? If there's no snow on the ground, and no salt/brine... then I plan on being there in the burb. I can't think of a better way tospend my ex's birthday, than away from her and having fun the way I want to have fun.
A little more cruising, and we get to see this.
No, not St Luis... Columbus Ohio
Anyone want a beer?

Then I stumble upon this sweet lookin Olds...

Looks sweet huh? I almost had one as my first car.

And we drove all the way to Cali!

I hear new california is much cleaner and less crime than the old california... heck, they don't even have a police department.Just a car lot, gas station and a stop light.
What else could you want?

Redneckgirl calls me,a nd we B.S. a bit... my son thought it was photo worthey;

We drive to the middle of nowhere, hang a right, and go another 30 miles or so to the town of Mount Victory. I've had my eye on this joint for about 5 years now. Always wanted to drive there and get some pics...
This is an unposed photo. I pulled up, and jay just got out and leaned up against the pump like this;

I thought, THIS would be the perfect shot for a old timey type photo...
(any my current wall paper)

Re: picture thread... burbin around somemore

I would give my first born for some of this stuff! (just don't tell Jay I said that, might tick him off a bit)

Dig the hose holder... genuine ford wheel!

Turns out, this old gas station is actually an antique shop, but aimed at gear heads like you and I. I see old quarts of oil through the front door here, and I saw lots of old ohio lic plates and old street signs... all kinds of N.O.S. (neat old sh!t)

One more photo, and it's time to roll out.

HEY... GET OUTTA MY SEAT! AND TAKE OFF MY COOL GUY SUNGLASSES!!!!

Then it's off to another nothing town, but it's where I grew up. Kenton Ohio. Known for nothing much at all. An old steel toy factory that there toys are prized collector pieces now, the first medal of honor recipiant lived here... and the national coon dog trials are held here every year.
Even the kids are board here.
But, there was a few photo ops as I drove around...

Can anyone tell me what year this old chevy truck is?

Here's a neat old packard for sale too;

Looking at the front lic plate, it's been parked since '72

Re: picture thread... burbin around somemore

Then it's time to roll to a place I spent a lotta time as a kid, france lake. An old stone quarry since filled with water and turned into a park. There's camping, lots or trails to hike or ride bikes on, then there's the city airport with about 6 planes normally tied down, and 5 of them are crop dusters.
Either way, it was a short 5 mile bike ride from the house I gre up in, and was a great place to get away from things that you hate... like your family.
I only took a couple photos since Jay was getting impatient.

From there, it was a short trip to my cousin's in Ada, where we stayed till it was dark, and any chance of getting any more cool photos were shot.
To include the town 15 miles away... Lima.
Oh well... there's planty of time for cheesey photo ops huh? Esp when you have an over active imagination... like me.

This trip has been brought to you by (at the time) real low gas prices;

and a cooler that WAS full of dew;

Wasting time on a day trip is always great. Thanks for sharing. Jay will appreciate it more when he thinks back on it! Maybe you need to find him a truck and start a build thread.

Another step up the hero ladder. Can't think of a better way to spend the day than to just go out and burn it with your son. Great shots by the way.

Looks like a fun trip.I hope Jay remembers it as a good time with his old man.I really liked that you put safety first(the Mountain Dew cooler was strapped in).
BTW did you listen to the song(Cheap Sunglasses)?

I still have some time to get him a truck, he won't be able todrive on his own till he's almost 18. If I had the space and the funds, I'd already be knee deep in one. I dohope to do that for him one day

Well, like I said, this was a few weeks ago, so at the time, that was a good price. I think I saw 1.86 or so here. I honestly don't look. Not paying attention is the way I keep it from bothering me.

Actually, funny thing about that... a few days after this trip was the trip with fine69 to chicago. I took this same cooler with me and when I left his place I tossed it in the seat as seen here, but I DIDN'T strap it in. I had tojab the brakes pretty hard ar one point (a deer in the road) and that sucker came slammin into the back of the front seat and popped open, showering the back of my head with ice water! NOT COOL!
I like ZZ Top, but I like there blues stuff... so no, no cheap sunglasses song!

It IS a cool lookin truck, with some tough as nails looking suspention. If you look, the sides above the front tires say chevrolet... I always thought of front clip as fenders hood and grill.... do you just mean dodge grill?
The owner of the car lot there is a crook acording to my dad who was a cop in that town from 79 - 87. Took guns and knives from the lot owner and his partner/brother many times over the years, and answered many calls about them.
Like I implied... the town sucks.
We actually have a member there, but I can't remember his screen name

Funny... he's ALWAYS trying to take my cool guy sunglasses. I tell him he isn't nearly cool enough, but he insists on it. Yesterday i went into Jegs to order some parts and started talkin burb stuff to this cat that was in there (should be joining the board here soon) Jay got sick of waiting so he went to sit in the burb. When i came out, it was the same as pictured above... he was in the drivers seat, with my cool guy sunglasses on, and was pretending to drive away.
I need to start hiding my keys when he spends the weekend with me!
