hey guys, ive been considering converting a swb 69 to a blazer, but have no clue on what the EXACT measurments so i can be sure to get it completly right. so what im askin is what is the length of the entire body, from bumper to bumper. and the frame length if anyone knos what that is, that would be great. and how the top fits on the blazer (pics if any) i need as much info on the blazer before start.

Re: Blazer specs

There is a website with frame measurements, but I don't have it on this computer. The Blazer is something like 5" shorter than a short bed. Getting the top to fit a shortened truck with the top cut off and the back of the cab removed is a heck of a lot of work. I think it would be much easier (and cheaper) to just find a Blazer and rebuild it.

Re: Blazer specs

yea i cant find a blazer, but i found a short bed in decent shape. ive been thinkin, if i can get a cap for a blazer, i could cut the frame, or add to it so that it would fit on the shortbed. then just cut everything from the windshield back.

The windshield frame on a Blazer is harder to find than a complete truck. Just look around. There are at quite a few blazers for sale on craigslist in seattle. I think shipping would be less painful than all the cutting, welding and adapting you have to do. Blazers and SWB really aren't the same truck.

Re: Blazer specs

You'll spend far less buying one off of the list that bouncytruck posted than converting a swb including shipping(IMO)

Re: Blazer specs

drunkbus has a very nice Blazer for sale in Coos Bay Oregon. Shipping used to be around $1000, which is cheaper than rust repair.

Find a blazer!
Save some bucks and travel where ever you have too, to find one.

The project your talking about is huge, so huge that the odds of ever finishing it are already against you.

That being said:
How's your shop?
How's your tool supply?
What's your time frame?
What's your budget? Is it Huge?

Re: Blazer specs

They are out there, be patient. I see one in the Wichita paper every once in a while (maybe once or twice a year). I looked for two years before I found one I was willing to buy - involved a road trip with a trailer to the Dallas area but was worth it for limited rust. Got mine for $650 - I thought it was a major bargain, even though it didn't run, needed an engine rebuild and needed a transfer case.

Re: Blazer specs

I just saw a blazer for $450, but I can't remember where it was. It looked fairly decent too. Try using http://crazedlist.org/ to search multiple craigslists in your part of the country.

Also, converting a 4wd Blazer to 2wd is easier and cheaper than shortening a shortbed. Here's an article on converting a 4wd Blazer to 2wd. http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...ion/index.html

Here's the frame specs page. http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/framespecs.html There isn't anything like it for body specs that I know of. Ya might try getting a factory assembly manual if you still feel compelled to make a truck into a blazer.

Re: Blazer specs

I realize these are all west coast, but it gives me an excuse to look.

Here's one for $950 http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/912464255.html

If you want something different, this guy is getting desperate to sell (although his price went up $500 from last week) - http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/914154184.html

Here's a decent start on the conversion, but the price seems about $1500 too high in my opinion - http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/915532110.html

$650 - http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/892909587.html

Re: Blazer specs

An 85 Blazer frame is far different than a first gen Blazer, but to answer your questions, the 4wd for both generations have front & rear leaf springs.

Re: Blazer specs

You can swap in the front cross member from a 2wd truck and then just put the rear axle on top of the rear leafs. The front cross member should be close to, if not completely, bolt in.

From what I've heard, a bagged 4wd conversion can go lower than a factory 2wd with bags, at least for first gens.
