hi guys i have a 56 chevy truck in which the po installed a ladder bar suspension with behind the axle coilovers. my question is can i just remove the coilovers and replace them with the airover shocks. if this is possible what do i need to measure for the length of the bags. if this cant be done, which i have been told by airride technologies i cant, whats the next best route 4 link with bags over axle?

Do you race the truck? Cause I don't know if you would really want to do that.

Post up some pics of your set-up. It isn't ideal to use air suspension on a ladder bar system. The typical ladder bar set-up functions like a short two-link (not ideal for the travel made available by air suspension). With the added travel the air offers, things may want to start binding pretty quickly.

at the moment i dont have any pics, but if it doesnt work out, what are my other options reguarding 4 links. of course i want something safe but i am a college kid so the money is a lil tight. i mainly wanna know what type, as in brand and whom offers it, also the airbag setups aair over shock, bag over axles, or behind axle

cool,thanks for the info. i dont see why you cant get rid of the coilovers and use them as long as the clearances are ok// most coilover setups are tight on clearances and those look quite a bit fatter so measure real carefully

I believe what the concern is the amount of travel that a bag over shock allows versus a coil over. Ladder bars are usually limited in the ability to articulate and travel. As you mentioned the concerns would be compounded by clearance issues.

ladder bar suspensions move on an arc due to the geometry...clearances is the only issue

The 'arc' is affected more when using a more adjustable air suspension vs. an adjustable coil-over.
