8 lug wheel swap

Can anyone tell me if 8 lug 3/4 ton wheels from a 95 or newer chev will fit my 71 chev 3/4 ton? I have been told the offset is different and may cause problems.

They should fit, but the bore is a little smaller I believe.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

the offset is a tad off, and it looks a little funny if you stare at it for a while, otherwise 88 - 98 wheels fit fine, but are a total PITA to remove.

I don`t think the 8-lugs are as inset as the 6-lugs.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

Yep they work-
I had the original split rims on mine when I bought it and the offset was actually the same.

Ace in the hole what lug nut did you use to hold on the center cap? Did you change the wheel studs.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

Ace in the hole. Yeah! That truck is sweet and the wheels look great. I even like that green color. Do you know what the chevy name for that color is?
Thanks for the info and the pic.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

I got the lug nuts here- http://www.wheelcomponents.com/lugnuts.html 3rd row down, part #2004. I have been told that most tire stores can get them for you too. The hardest part was cutting the center out of the front caps to fit over the hubs. These caps have a thin layer of metal over the plastic, almost like stainless. Hard as nails to get thru. I had a brand new 4 1/2" hole saw and by the time I was done it pretty much was too.

The color is PPG #415570. It's not an exact match to the original med. olive but its real close. Since I painted the whole truck I was not worried about an exact match.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

Here is a picture of mine, I love these late model rims on the older trucks. You can get them pretty cheap too as guys are switching out to bigger rims/tires.

Re: 8 lug wheel swap

I'm running 82 Ford F350 steelies on mine (I've got dualys though..). The offset is fine, the rims are wider than the stockers.
