VIN Locations and Other
I am about to look at a 72 chevy truck and realized I don't know all the locations of VIN numbers. And seeing as I trust no one, I must look at every location. I do know the VIN is on the protecto plate in the glove box door, and on the DS dash inside the cab (at least in my 1971 GMC) but not sure about where on the chassis it is located? Thanks for the help and any pictures to show the location!
Also I have seen a lot of chatter of LB trucks being shortened, other than the VIN, any other indicators to look out for? |

Re: VIN Locations and Other
On the top rail of the drivers side of the frame on the hump behind the steering bo is one on the chassis. I found a sticker on my drivers side door with the vin on it. This one may or moy not be there due to age and it being a sticker. If the bench seat is original there may be a build sheet under the foam or there may not GM was not universal on those. To tell if its been shortened either run the vin it will tell you or look for weld marks on the frame in the rear section you shouldn't be able to tall by the bed most will not go thru the trouble of shortining a LWB

Is the VIN inside the Frame or right on top?

Top of the frame.
And there should be a data plate on the rear door pillar, driver side, with the VIN.

Re: VIN Locations and Other
It also has a 327 which is not even an option. I hope it is not all hacked! Hopefully just a replace V8!

Re: VIN Locations and Other
Some interesting answers...
The only places you'll be able tosee the VIN; The frame rail up front, on top, by the steering gear box (not all were stamped.... mut most were) Rivited to the cab side of the drivers door jamb This is the one the DMV will be interested in looking at A sticker on the back side of the glove box door called the SPID A sticker in the drivers side door jamb on the door. The Protecto plate was part of a book that came with the vehicle No vin on the dash of any 67 - 72 10 - 30 series compelet cab trucks. The VIN will not tell you anything about the wheelbase on a chevy |
