Inexpensive gas tank for a 56?

I would like to relocate my tank to under the bed of my 56, but the gas tank I keep finding on the internet will be about $450 shipped with everything (straps, sending unit etc.) does anyone know of a cheaper option?

Thanks

Look at some S10 Blazer tanks. They should fit behind the axle.

i put a pro-street fuel cell from summit racing under the bed of my 55 . Its 16 gal , 25"x17"x9" , comes with a 0-90 ohm GM sending unit in the tank and runs about $ 145.00 . All you have to do is drill out the rivets and move the rear frame brace back a few inches and it drops right between that and brace where your shocks mount . i also got the straps from summit they were 30 bucks and 12.75 to ship it all

Re: Inexpensive gas tank for a 56?

One thing you need to keep in mind when picking a tank is whether it will give you enough room on the sides to route your pipes. If you are not taking them out the back this may not be a problem but if you are going over the axle you will need to have at least three inches between the leaf springs and the tank, preferrable four inches.

I was using an 18 gallon 1st Gen camaro tank when I realized this was a problem and went with a Tanks, Inc universal truck tank instead. I lost a couple of gallons of capacity but it was an easy install and provides plenty of room for the pipes. The cost was about $210.00 with free shipping. They also can provide some tank straps but these can also be made easily from 1" x 1/8 flat bar available from Sears hardware or Ace or any of the big box stores.
