got door art on my flat black 64
There's an ole-timer (like me) who lives not too far from me who has been lettering trucks for many years (every thing's gone to vinyl letters now-days) so I got him to work up a shop truck door art for me after I painted my 64.

That looks cool. What kind of black paint is that? It nails the hot rod look.

Re: got door art on my flat black 64
I was kinda going for the correct hot rod look for the year. So, wide white walls are a no-go. White walls weren't popular in the mid-60's (trust me, I'll be 61 yrs old in February, so I know.) My 63 has a 4-6 drop, but I kinda want this one stock ride. I might do a 2 in the rear just to level it out.

It's a Mexican blanket I bought off eBay and took it to the upholstery shop where they used it for the material. It was a 5x7 which was enough material. I think I paid about 40 bucks for it, but you can find some cheaper. The upholstery shop charged me 145 to sew it on.

You may want to find a good sign painter, cause I didn't come up with this one, the painter did. Most of those ole time sign painters are artists, because if you think about it, they had to have the talent to paint all kinds of things on trucks. I actually showed my guy a bunch of other door art pictures that I had saved up. He looked at them and said "okay, let me see what I can work up." Then he came up with the whole design himself. I just told him what I wanted it to say. And, my original idea was either an adjustable wrench, a rod and piston or maybe an open end wrench for a graphic, but he came up with the roadster. That's what these guys do for a living; logos.

Re: got door art on my flat black 64
I went the cheap route for bed wood. T1-11 covered with Marine Spar Varnish. The inside of the bed was just rattle-canned. I did that in case I put something in the bed that scratched it up, I could easily touch it up. As you can see, I was kinda hard on it when I put the wood in. So, I'll have to retouch it up.

Re: got door art on my flat black 64
thanks Chris. It's not primer, it's single stage enamel. Primer tends to turn white with age.

Re: got door art on my flat black 64
T1-11 siding. Wow, I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a cheap bed just to stabalize the floppiness of the bed since its well gone. Thats a cool idea that I might have to barrow until I get back to the bed and some money unless of course the T1-11 idea just stays. It would at least last until I get into paint since thats going to be a while a way.
That logo is killer too. |

Just put the strips right over that.
I saw one like that, and had to do a double take. Looks good, on the cheap.
