Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
The cables on my big block are hokey and I want to replace them soon.
Where can I buy good quality large cables for top terminal batteries ? I'd make them myself with welding cable if necessary if I could find the proper ends and tools needed. I mean quality stuff, not parts store prepackaged junk.

I always just go to AOC and have them cut wire and crimp ends on it for me, they have all the stuff there.

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
I buy mine from a local car/tractor electronics shop. They make the cables. I either give them the exact length, or bring an old cable in. Since you are a welder, I assume you may work with farmers. If so, ask them where to get the cables mase.

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
Try your local John Deere Ag dealer, years ago when I worked in one we had a really nice crimper and made our own cables with quality ends and good cable. Might even check with other shops/dealerships, I am sure someone around can still makes them.

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
Your local Napa Autoparts should make custom cables. My buddy is a manager and makes mine. Great quality with soldered ends, not crimped

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
Carquest has some good quality cables if you get a counterman to look in the catalog for you. They have any gauge you want when lengths in 3-5 in increments.

TX I always get my 1, or 2 ga. cables and ends at my local Orilleys, then solder everything together.

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
I always get the BRAIDED wire from the parts store (zero or one gauge) and get my terminals from Jegs.com. I have really grown to like the threaded ring terminals they sell

Re: Where to buy QUALITY battery cables
I always make mine as soldered assemblies.
Just made one for my '72. Got all the stuff at Napa-- the terminal, the lug on the starter end, the heavy cable, and the shrink wrap (the good kind with the glue in it). Clamp the terminal in a vise with the barrel up. Heat it up, feed solder into it until it's about 3/4ths full, stick your stripped cable in and hold it still for about 30 seconds. Then shrink wrap. Easy. You can also get special solder "pellets" to just drop into the barrel and heat until molten before sticking your cable in, but they're not necessary. I put some split loom on this one. |
