Speedometer sticking

I've got a 03 GMC sierra and I noticed today that the speedometer is sticking. It goes up but does not want to come back down when I slow down. It did it twice while I was driving it today then went back to working. I tried shutting the truck off and then restarting it but that did not solve the problem. It just went back to working on its own. Anything I need to worry about? If it does quit working, how hard is it to fix?

Re: Speedometer sticking

there is a TSB out on it. the clusters start going haywire. if you have less than 70,000 miles on your truck, or if it's been in service less than 5 years from the original purchase date, you'll get it at GM's cost. otherwise it'll be like $375 out of your pocket.

Re: Speedometer sticking

Guess I'll go buy the dealer in the morning then. Not sure when the "In service" date for it was. I just bought the thing earlier this summer

Re: Speedometer sticking

My 03 did it at 85k luckily I got a friend at the dealership to hook me up. There is a local in cookeville that rebuilds them. From what he tells me its just replacing the little stepper motors for the gauges. Maybe you can find someone in your town who does the same?
