Trublesome 69

i have a 69 3/4 4x4 with a built mid 80s 305 and i have had nothing but probs with my beloved truck. i just compleatley rewired the truck with a painless harniss do to the truck catching fire over the summer. as soon as that was finished the motor started dumping oil out of the rear main seal, now that is fixed and the motor is now acting like it is starving for fuel. it will run for a min just fine then it wont rev at all. and when i can get it to rev up to 2 grand it pops and spits if anyone out there has any ideas what would cause this i would sure like to know. thank you!!

Re: Trublesome 69

I had a mid '80s 267. Sounds similar. If I remember correctly, the sprocket was plastic coated and pieces came off after so long. The timing chain jumped off the teeth of the sprocket causing the valves to open and close late.

Re: Trublesome 69

Just what state of tune is the engine in? Have you pulled all the spark plugs to examine them? Have you inspected the plug wires to see if there is sufficient spark getting to the plugs? Is the vacumn advance hooked up and working ? What has been done to it recently before this started happening that could be related?

Re: Trublesome 69

Make sure its getting fuel. Clogged fuel filter is the first place i would check.
