Wiw?

Theres been this truck ive driven by for years but just admired, well im thinking about talking to the owner and want to know what afair price would be and what i could get it for

Basics:

it appears to be a 1975 because it has the clear blinker covers and no catalytic converter, its a Chevy silverado (woodgrain, a/c etc...) dark and light brown two tone which i think would look okay with a good wax/buff/clean/shine, it also has custom tube bumpers front a rear with a winch under the front, and 4 offroad lights in the front, it also has a camper shell, oh almost forgot, its a standard cab shortbed, very original

Drivetrain:

I would guess a 350 i dont know though, i could see it was a v8 with some headers? all the pipes are seperate until they come together at the start of the exhaust, the transmission is a th350 the transfer case is a np205, it has a twelvebolt in the rear and im guessing a d44 up front, it has a 4 inch all leaf lift

it hasnt been driven in a very long time, probably ten years, the back is storage, completeley packed full in fact, and his house has foreclosed and is going up for auction so give me some guesses for a fair price and what you think i could get

oh, one fender is pretty rotted out the other one is okay, couldnt tell about the rockers but every where else looked fine

thanks if youve read this far, i can get some pics tomorrow too

Re: Wiw?

My room mate bought almost the same truck, but in worse shape.

I know what eh paid, so I'm going to say $2k. The motor will probably need new seals, the gas tank will need to be cleaned really well. New weather stripping, etc.

We sunk about $2k into the truck my roomy bought and didn't do ANY paint/body work.

Let me know how it goes, you're pretty local.

Re: Wiw?

It sounds like he might be in a pickle for money right now. I'd offer him around 800.00 and see if he bites.

Re: Wiw?

well i talked to a realator type lady doing an open house before the auction and she said that its considered an abandoned vehicle and the bank was just going to tow it away so it sounds like i might be able to just tow it to my house for free or probably really cheap!!!!!!!!! and also as a bonus the back is filled with lake toys like skis and such which is a double score, i looked under the hood and it has an edelbrock carb that looks brand new, well 10 years old brand new but i bet it was hardly used and the side of the engine said high performance 350, i dont know if those were just covers or if its a newer engine but score, the problem will be that i bet i wont have any keys, probably

and it looked like it has 2 gas tanks one on each side? is that possible?

Re: Wiw?

Looks to be a '77 with that yellow trim and that grille. That would be awesome if ya could get it free. I'd offer somewhere around $1000 if I had to.

Re: Wiw?

I agree with dooce on the trim with yellow insert paint as 77, moldings not changed as much as grilles are. The grille looks like an 80. Pic below shows a 77. Standard equipment for V8 and T350 trans 4x4 would have been full time 203 transfer case. The 205 and lockouts came with the manual transmission. Optional extra tank was available.

Re: Wiw?

The gas cap on the side of the bed makes it '77 or older. From '78 on they had a square door over the cap.

Re: Wiw?

good eye acex, it is in clearlake

darn i was hoping it was a 75 because of the smog in california, did 77 have cats? i looked at the exauhst and its straight dual exahust with an h pipe in the middle

as for the transfercase im 80% sure its a 205, i was comparing it to the 203 in my blazer and the trucks transfer case is shorter, those stickers on the side are offroad clubs so its possible it could have been swapped out, ill take some pics

and if anyone cares those are scmittybuilt bumpers

Re: Wiw?

my 77 has no emissions, and that being a 4x4 makes it less likely for smog. But being cali im not sure on that.

Its got yellow trim? makes it a 77, because i highly doubt thats a 75 gentlemen jim lol

Is it just me or does it seem that some 1978 did NOT have the square door over the cap?

No, I typed it wrong, the break was '78. The 79s were the first with the door.

Re: Wiw?

It's a 77 with a later grill. I doubt that he changed the trim, but it's possible the grill was updated. That appears to be a Hickey "Sidewinder" winch under the front bumper. The rods you see under the axlewere bolt on axle truss designed to help support the axle housing and prevent it from flexing.

The tube bumpers could be Hickey as well. The lights appears to be old KC Daylighters.

Look close at the stickers on the front fenders. They appear to be old off road club, or association stickers. You might be able to research them and find someone that knew the owner and the truck.

Re: Wiw?

Re: Wiw?

It is a 205. So, there are things on this vehicle that have been changed. It's hard to see them in the pics but, the lockouts don't look factory. Pics below explain transfer case availability for 1977 model year.

Re: Wiw?

My $.02 cents; $800 to a grand seems "fair price" IMHO, but free is always better. And depending on what your plans are for this truck, I'd say push, pull, tow, or whatever means necessary to get this truck in your possesion. It's a decent enough looking little shortbed 4-by that lots of guys would luv to have and even if it's '76 or later and you can't get thru smog, by putting a cat-converter on as a last resort it will pass.

Have a '77 myself and that's what I ended up doing and just did my smoggin' this past June and she came thru with flying colors. So if it's the smog issue that's holding you back I'd say pull the trigger, this truck needs a good home...

Another thing to consider is that depending on what county you'd register in, I've heard you NorCal guys don't have near the strict smog standards as we do here in SoCal... correct me if I'm wrong?

Re: Wiw?

some counties have stricter regulations, where i live in el dorado county the regulations are sorta strict but up in lake county where the truck is theyre very lax, we used to register an old chevy van of ours up there to get around smog, im just waiting, ill probably get word of whats going to happen with this truck sometime on monday, im really hoping free, my house is only about a block up the street so if we had to we could drag it, with all 4 wheels screechin if we had to

anybody know how to break into these trucks? i bet because its considered aboandoned i wont get keys, i have extra windows so i could get in that way to get the e-brake off, and disconnect the drivelines, pump the tires and hopefully she'd roll away, unless im missing something

also i noticed for the airconditioning controls, they are seperate above the heater controls, is that stock?
