which manual is better?

just got my 66 truck a couple weeks ago and im ready to start working on it. which is the better? the 63 shop manual ($29.95) with the 66 supplement ($19.95) or the factory assembly manual ($29.95)? the girl @ LMC didnt know the difference. thanks

Sir, the 1963 manual has the most detailed and complete information and the supplement was GM's way of updating it for your model year. The assembly manual is good for body assembly type "stuff". I have all three and use the large 1963 manual the most. But of course, I have a 63. I hope that this is helpful.

I got the 63 manual with the 65 sup. Works good for me. If I can't find what I need, I make it up as I go.

I suggest all three...I have every manual/volume available and find each of them to be beneficial in some fashion.

Not to undermine the aftermarket vendors, but I have purchased each of these manuals on eBay, sometimes for substantially less money.

lilred66, i checked on ebay and they want more $$ for the used ones than new from classic parts.com. that brings me to another question.........LMC,classic parts.com,american classic truck parts, and golden state parts are all parts catalogs that i have. any other good places with low prices i should know about that you guys use?

Be patient with the eBay source...I have bought the entire set (7 manuals) on eBay for $50.00, but you have to check back from time-to-time to find this deal. I have also purchased them at the local car/truck swap meets of a fraction of the new cost. I keep a complete set at my home office for reference while I am online and a complete set at the shop for reference when I am wrenching on my rigs.

Sweet truck bro.....the manuals are helpful. I mostly use them to look up where the other end of some greasy, hacked up wire was supposed to go. The rest of the bolt-on stuff is relatively easy.

Others may disagree but I have found that the parts places are generally the same for parts; the prices can vary widely for the same part. The deciding factor can be the shipping/handling charge or simply customer service. It may be to your atvantage to place orders with different places to get the best prices. When you start looking you'll see what I mean.
