Air in the gas line... help please

ok so i have been working on my truck's frame..took seat and gas tank out to do cab corner repair... have been working on the frame and i sand blasted some parts of the frame i wanted to spray some undercoating on it today so i put the gas tank back in the truck to drive couple miles down road to car wash to spray the dust off that the air hose couldnt get...it was little over 1/4 tank and i plug it all back in... hook lines up..it fires right up.. i get a mile down the road and it dies... i try starting and it just cranks and cranks and cranks.... luckily i had my friend in his truck behind me since i had no tail lights or lisence plate.... any ideas how to fix this when i go to put the tank back in???

I would check the hose clamps (thighness) fuel hoses (cracks) and fuel filter.
I would also recommend replacing all the parts listed above for new ones (of course) when u put it back together.

There is also a chance your fuel pump stopped working as well.

+ 1 Replace your fuel line from the tank to the pump

Did you cap the tank filler off or use the stock cap. If the tank can't vent it will do just as you describe.

Try (very gently) putting a little air pressure on the line (after diconnecting at the fuel pump and gas tank).

I had a huge blob of blob that formed while I was doing an engine swap that obstructed the fuel line and flow. I hope this helps.

i put the stock filler cap on and taped over the holes that the lines went to when the tank was out... which line should i blow air threw... is it the lines in the middle of the cab or the lines on the passenger side.... it wont be ready to put tank back in for awhile so i wont try it till then but thats beside the point..

I would suggest blowing compressed air (in short bursts) backwards through the line between the fuel pump and gas tank (with the lines disconnected of course). When you reconnect all fuel lines (except to the fuel pump), you can test wheither or not there is uninterrupted fuel flow between the tank and the fuel pump by putting a little air pressure in the gasoline tank at the gas cap. If all the fuel lines are clear, fuel should flow freely from the tank to where it would connect at the fuel pump (at least on my truck anyway).

Be careful! Lots of raw gasoline around when working with fuel lines.

another possibilty i had under 1/4 tank... what would happen if i filled it up then tryed..could that work?? il ltry what you said once my body work is done and gas tank is ready to be put back in

well i decided to go for a joy ride in it..with no bed= light ride.... so i put it in.. dumped some gas in carb... big ol backfire sounded like a blew a hole in muffler... but i didnt.. turned the switch on the floor in cab because i guess at one time it had dual tanks.... cranked and cranked for a few minutes pumping gas she fired.. so i took her on streets... flooring her when i was doing about 40..since there was no bed on it i was breaking the tires loose it was fun... then put her away b4 i got in cop trouble since i had no lisence plate on it.. no tail lights..seat belts and no seat
