spare tire carrier alternative
is there some way that a spare tire winch like on the 88-98 body style trucks could be mounted up under the bottom of the bed in the back where the stock carrier would be...has anyone done this...it seems like there is an abundance of them...and it would seem easier to me to winch the tire up...I don't know how hard it is to get the tire in the stock carrier, but I know in my Tahoe it has one of the winches and it rocks...very easy operation...what's yalls thoughts on this...here's a thread with pics so you know what I'm talking about...

Re: spare tire carrier alternative
I can sum putting a spare tire on the carrier in one word..... IT SUCKS. You pretty much have to manhandle it to get it up. Using a later model winch to host the tire up and then securing it with the carrier would be sweet. I don't see why it could not be done.

Re: spare tire carrier alternative
the great thing and the winch is you don't have to secure it...the winch does all the work...at least that's the way it is on my Tahoe...once the tire is up and tight, it doesn't move...

Re: spare tire carrier alternative
Make sure the fab work you do is heavy enough to support everything & be able to take dialy beating. Bullet holes? Easier way. Tell girlfriend wedding has to wait, you need parts OR, get caught with neighbors wife by neighbor or girlfriend. Leave tailgate on, run like hell, they'll take care of installing the holes

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose. |
