LMC bumpers?

Has anyone here used LMC (or any other repro) bumpers on their trucks, of the 73-80 vintage? I have nice bumpers on my 73, but want to make some modifications to them (inckuding shaving the bolts), and was thinking of using new primered bumpers in an effort to save money anf time on having the imperfections repaired on my original bumpers as well as having to have them chemically stripped before welding can begin. I am wondering about the quality of non-GM front and rear sport bumpers. Your thoughts or opinions please. Thanks in advance.

Re: LMC bumpers?

Their standard crash parts bumper is crap. It's comparable to chrome dipped beer can. Very thin metal and it rust like crazy.

Their premium chrome bumpers with a warranty are good. The chrome is nice, and it last well. The thickness and weight is very close to a real GM bumper.

This is all from my experience with rear sport bumpers. I have a new front bumper in the box from them but haven't put it on yet.

You must be a mind reader!! I just installed an L.M.C primered rear sport bumper on the 77' today! I was very impressed with the quality and fit. I had GM brackets (Thanks lowlife99!) and it fit perfect! I modified the brackets to pull it in 1 1/2"...Best $99.00 i spent in a long time

Re: LMC bumpers?

I have used Goodmark bumpers with just mid level of satisfaction . One of my trucks had an aftermarket bumper that was bent when the bumper guards were installed . Very thin but I do not know what brand it was . I have a front bumper on my 77 long bed that came off an early 70's truck with bumper guards . You cant hardly tell where they were mounted on the original bumper .

Re: LMC bumpers?

I got a Goodmark bumper thru summit. The shipping was only their standard charge at the time of $9.95. Seems a bit thinner then stock but its still shiny. I dont know if they have unchromed ones.

Re: LMC bumpers?

Jeff I bought the basic unpainted bumper for my 82 Blazer because I had some mods in mind. It was much thinner than than the GM bumper.

Re: LMC bumpers?

I should add something. I want a primered steel bumper so I can weld the holes shut, and have it chromed.

I just want to be sure it is paper clip thin and the fit is nice.

crawdadfox, can you post a picture of your newly installed bumper, or E-mail me one?

Thanks for the feedback fellas.

Thanks Ken. I posted the same time you did, that is not exactly what I wanted to hear. Have you had the mods done and installed?

Re: LMC bumpers?

I like LMC's fit and finish. It won't matter to you since you want the painted bumper, but I bought the lmc premium chrome bumper because it has a 5 year warranty on the plating. I went to goodmark and asked and they told me there's no warranty whatsoever, except that it fits the truck.

Re: LMC bumpers?

Yo!
My LMC premium bumper matches my factory GM front bumper in thickness and chrome finishing. Fit is perfect:

I'd recommend it as restoration quality, but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for bigblock73. Todd.

Re: LMC bumpers?

really! I would be interested in the painted cheapo bumpers if they are thinner and weigh a lot less! Is this the case?

Of course, I am just looking for feedback on the bumpers in general...and didn't think anyone had purchased a set from you.

Are yours the same as LMC's?

You owe me a phone call or E-mail...about your payment and radiator dimensions....I am waiting to hear back from you.

Re: LMC bumpers?

Jeff, check with a couple body shops in your area and see who they get their rechromed bumpers from. You could probably get a decent core, do the work you need, and have it chromed.

Re: LMC bumpers?

Chris, I don't see any painted 73-80 "sport" bumpers in your online catalog...front or rear.
