best way for 6" lift on 87 3/4 ton 4x4?
Bought a 6" rough country lift for my 87 3/4 ton 4x4. 6" springs in the front, with 4" block and add a leaf in the rear. I would like to ditch the 4" blocks for an 4" offroad design shackle flip. It looks like the add a leaf is not for the 56" rear leafs and for the 52". Part number is G103 if anyone can confirm that its for 52" rear springs.
Would I be best off with 4" ORD flip and 2" blocks, or anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks Last edited by vern350; 12-28-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

thanks for the replies first off. Is a 6" shackle, measured from eye to eye?

Re: best way for 6" lift on 87 3/4 ton 4x4?
That is similar lift to what I used on mine. 6” Superlift springs upfront, ORD HD front shackles, 4” ORD shackle flip and stock springs in the rear. I had my rear spring packs reworked years ago to level out the truck 4” lift I had at the time without the needs for lift blocks so I actually had to remove one arched spring from the packs to try to level it out after the 6” springs and 4” ORD kit was installed as the rear sat too high.
I would use the 6” springs and the 4” ORD flip then see where you are at then. You might be surprised as it may just sit level or pretty close to it. If not, then get the 6” ORD shackle. A slight swat in the rear looks better than rear sitting higher than the front. It is very hard to get a custom lifted truck to sit completely level. Mine still sits a bit high in the rear but all the crap in the camper shell weight it down enough to somewhat level it out.

DirtyLarry your truck looks real good. I think I'll just get the 4" ORD and go from there.

Re: best way for 6" lift on 87 3/4 ton 4x4?
There are 6" of suspension in the front to be had with a drop Xmember to hang your springs from, longer shackles, and 52" long springs *from the rear of any 88-98 chevy truck. I lifted a '70 K10 with minimal effort for about 200. maybe a little more because I used name brand fabricators. Although, they weren't very big name brands back then. I wonder where their parts are made now. :-/
back on topic? Drop Xmembers are available in a couple different styles, and let you adjust your spring placement for correct shackle angle (many much bennefit) B-52's come to mind, SORD makes a one piece, and I'm sure there are more around. 2wd 88-98 rear springs have 3 leaf. 4wd 88-98 rear springs have 4 leaf. add or remove as you see fit A Zero Rate lift block between your spring pack and axle pad will let you put your axle where you want it after you find your shackle location. Be careful with your driveshaft after you lift it... Although, I'd think about different axles too you and two friends can build one in a weekend check on CK5.com for a 52" swap for specific pictures for your generation truck. maybe.
